Yes, but it wasn't the Citizen Kane of gaming.
>>
My Fifa/cod friend is trying to sell it to me. He said 'it's like a movie you can control', as his highest praise.
>>
One of the best games of last gen for sure.

I have a ps3 and never played it, don't really care to anyway

Why? Because its a mediocre tps with cool story, not worth the time desu

Yes. A 10/10? Fuck no. Citizen Kane of gaming? Fuck no. But it's a solid 8/10 game with much more gameplay than people think it has.

Why is TLOU the edgy thing in an image with Mad Max and The Road?

Have you watched either of those movies?
>>
>>320148524
i think it was good in most ways apart of the actual gameplay

just walking places and shooting things then setting up a latter isnt very fun. otherwise it was a good game. joel was a very human character, and probably the core reason why i like the game.
>>
>>320148524
Easily has the most poignant story in gaming. Sure it's the most complex, but the pacing and the extremely fleshed out characters make it just that.

As for gameplay, it's really fun. It's nothing new or boner-inducing, but it's fun and feels pretty good. The stealth isn't perfect, but feels pretty badass at the same time.

Honestly, just play it for the story. It's more than worth a play through for that.

I don't know why /v/ hates it so much, but then again /v/ needs to hate on everything that's genuinely good.

TLoU is the Starcraft for its genre in vidya.

Starcraft did nothing amazing short of making tighter gameplay in an established gaming formula, great art and characters people remember, and a cliché yet gripping story that kept you playing. There was little to no innovation yet it went on to become huge.

TLoU did the same thing for the action third person shooter. It's an excellent example of playing it safe done right.
>>
>>320150980
What in the hell are you talking about?

Tess dies.
The two black guys die.
Marlene and her merry band of rebels are all incompetent retards that die.
The gay guy, Bill, is a fucking paranoid loner who lives alone in a booby-trapped city muttering to himself.

Ellie isn't even shown to be gay in the vanilla game. She does absolutely nothing to indicate a sexual orientation. And she's a white girl.

What was tumblr about it?

Solid 8.5/10.

Campaign is a grittier Uncharted, which is about the best you can expect. People always say it's a movie game, but it does have real-time crafting, inventory management and healing, so take that as you will. There is some freedom in the level design, and at higher difficulties its very important to explore. The core mechanics of shooting feel impact enough, and the melee is downright brutal. The major downsides for me are the inconsistent A.I. and very slow start to the campaign.

However the game really shines in its multiplayer. It's one of the few games where the importance of stealth and cover actually maintains itself in the online mode and it makes for a very tense experience.

Biker gangs that go around raping people and the hero's final vigilante moment being giving a guy a hacksaw to mutilate himself or burn to death/explode is way "edgier" than anything in TLoU.

If we're talking Mad Max 2, since that's actually the one where he has a dog, we still again have biker raider gangs who tell people to peacefully surrender before running them down and brutally murdering them.

It's not actually that edgy, but neither is TLOU. I just can't see how you look at TLOU, Mad Max, and The Road and say TLOU is the edgy one.

>>320152438
Like I said, they're not particularly edgy. They're all post-apocalyptic stories with measured amounts of barbarism. "Edgy" is a fucking retarded word that people spout when they don't actually have any idea what they dislike about something and or incapable of articulating it, so they just brand it "edgy" and think it works.

Next to those other two movies, TLOU is incredibly tame with regards to how dark or brutal it is. Especially The Road, where the entire movie is soaked through with hopelessness and brutality with the main characters' main means of defense being a gun they intended to kill themselves with.

A great ending would have been when Joel just died from his injury and the girl would have been raped/killed 2bh.
>>
I loved it, I'd give it 9,5/10.

My first playthrough on Normal was very good, story itself was alright, but storytelling goat, and locations even goater, probably best "zombie" postapo settings. Gameplay and mechanics were great, but the game was bit easy.

My second playthrough on Survival (hardest in base game, there's Grounded dlc difficulty that I haven't played) was absolutely fantastic. The wallhack sneak mode was gone, almost zero ammo, you had to scavage fucking everything and also manage your inventory and health, for example choosing to craft either medkit or molotov. I died lots of time but I was almost never annoyed by it. I also already knew the game mechanics pretty good so basically it was actually survival game, if not horror.

And multiplayer. Oh, multiplayer. I expected it to be filler shit that I'l play for two afternoons and never return to it again, but I actually played at least 20 mp "campaigns". Great gameplay, focus on teamwork and so many fantastic things such as managing your survivors or collecting materials and parts.

So, it probably isn't Citizen Kane of vidya, but definitely one of my favourite videogames of 7th gen and even in general.

Oh and cutscenes were fine, it was the fucking walking sequences that really fucked the game into meme zone.

The best game on the PS3, and one of the greatest from last gen. Period.

You faggots love to argue that reviewers are biased and all, and granted, that probably would've been the case had it been just a few of them giving the game a perfect score, but it wasn't. It fucking wasn't. Nearly every single fucking site/reviewer gave it a 10/10. And when they didn't, it was either a 9/10 or an 8 worst case scenario. Pic related.

Very few games have been praised as much as TLOU, and for good reason. One of the few titles that had me emotionally invested from start to finish.

Vidya aren't made to be quality products, they're made to be just good enough to get teenagers to convince mom to buy it and penniless uni-students to forego eating a meal for some hours of fun. Sales are a definite measure of quality if the point is to sell something of the least quality possible to make money.

Vidya is about escapism. That's it. What money businesses make is icing on the cake for them

The writing and acting is, for a video game, pretty much high tier. Some of the sequences like the intro and the winter part with David are fantastic and there are moments like the encounter with the giraffes that are really great too. By the end I was getting really tired of the wonky stealth gameplay but overall it's well worth playing.

Is anyone else fine that Naughty Dog went with the MATURE ADVENTURE shit and dropped Jak and Daxter? That series was shit after the first and I'm glad they put it to bed. As long as R&C is around I'm good.

People say its shit. Some people love it. I don't know why you expect anything else from /v/. Unless a game is universally terrible, like fallout 4 :^) you'll generally get a 50:50 love/hate relationship with the best games. For older games like KOTOR/fallout, it's usually 80% people who've never played it arguing about why it's shit/not shit.

Play it for yourself and see if you like it.

At the very least, let's ask an important question, since we all know we'll get a TLoU2. Would you rather play:

>Sequel as older Ellie going on an adventure to find a cure when she finds out Joel was lying (maybe he tells her on his deathbed)
or
>Prequel as young Joel and Tommy in their unsavory bandit days (how did you know about the ambush Joel? / "I've been on both sides of 'em.")

Its pretty good.

Gameplay is kinda arse, with the camera being very loose which makes tracking and headshotting zombies very difficult compared to other games with well-calibrated shooter controls where itd be trivial.

Clicker sections are dogshit. They stop being scary/tense two deaths into the very first clusterfuck of them, and then they go ahead and keep throwing you into housefulls of the shits, horribly mistaking "wait for the patrols while moving at the speed of anal seepage" for "great monster design". Its a garbage enemy all the way up until you get the shotgun and theyre weirdly fond of throwing them everywhere.

On the plus side, the environments are nice and pretty (in the remaster especially) and do look like the real world, while showing some decent creativity in level design. Some of the best tension and uncertainty in the game comes from sections where you're set up for what has all the video game level design queues for an impending ambush... and then nothing happens.

The opening sequence was VERY good even if it blew its load way too early.

The fact that the characters have world-building and character-developing dialog along the way that is both well-written and well-delivered is refreshing. Even if you dont like the characters themselves, the interplay between them is dynamic enough to be entertaining and tell small stories along the way.

Overall a strong 7.5/10 very much worth playing, but goddamn is it overhyped.

I love how most PCkeks would agree the first season of TellTale's WalkingDead was a pretty good character development driven story-based game

But then they criticize TLoU for the exact same thing, even though it has actual gameplay added on top of it and very good multiplayer but no one, including me, cares about that

But no, it must live up to dragonsdogma/monsterhunter/Thief/DeusEx levels of deep combat, stealth and RPG mechanics otherwise it's shit

But if we were talking about MY daughter, I would've done the exact same as Joel. I can't just sit there and watch my fucking daughter die when they cut open her head. And if any of you say otherwise, you're either lying, have zero empathy, or I guess just have a really shitty family.

So again, Joel was "wrong". And I would've done the same thing in a heartbeat.

It was alright. I honestly vastly prefer the Uncharted series but that seems to be an unpopular opinion, most people seem to prefer TLoU or hate both.

Aside from the fact that I pretty much loathe zombie apocalypse shit at this point but love Indiana Jones pulpy adventure shit, Uncharted just has faster, more dynamic gameplay in singleplayer, some very good encounter design in 2 and 3, and doesn't abuse the forced walking sequence or long quiet times to allow for plot as heavily as TLoU does (although the beginning of 3 is a bit much in that regard).
>>

TLoU is full of dangerous design choices that are much riskier than playing as a character that isn't the main character of the series. Constantly ammo starving the player, female character as the lead on the boxart, one of the villains is a cannibal child rapist. By all accounts these were internally unpopular decisions made by the developers.

>>320160741

The difference being that The Walking Dead is basically a VN whereas TLoU tries to be a "game" in the more conventional sense and does a pretty boring job of it. When you've got a whole game where EVERY SINGLE PUZZLE is solved by "find the ladder/bin/pallet and put it in the right place" then you know you've basically fucked up.

If TWD was built around a mediocre tps framework then it would get the same criticisms here as TLoU. But please, do continue to use completely irreverent, apples and oranges comparisons so that we can easily identify you, making it easier for us to ignore you in future.
>>
>>320152553
So you DO have autism.
>>
The combat or evasion of it is good, but too scarce. You spend upwards of 60% of your playtime walking and moving ladders and pallets. The story was alright at best and character outcomes were predictable.

Multiplayer is great though, because like I said the combat is pretty good. Pay2win weapons killed it though

I think the platforming puzzles were designed to be easy to give the player something to do while the characters talk to eachother, which is a far better compromise than just characters talking while walking forward.

Alternatively they were made easy because in real life there are no such thing as contrived platforming puzzles, you simply move objects like you would in real life to get to higher places.

The combat is good (or at least challenging), until you discover the Z-targeting option in the settings. Then you realize that it's artificial difficulty at its finest.
