I'm paranoid that my ancient 2TB is about to die.
What's a good HDD for video games?
>>
>>320146032
My 2TB Seagate just died. It has a 30% annual fail rate apparently.

I replaced it with a 4TB Hitachi, which has a 1.3% annual fail rate.
>>
I recently bought a 1tb WD Black for $48. Has a 5yr warranty so thats pretty sweet. I'm sick of modern-day HDDs dying left and right, so I went for the straight-up tank instead of another 2-3tb piece of shit.
>>
>>320146032
I got two 5TB WD reds and put them into an Icybox which is basicly a physical RAID.
This calmed my paranoia, but also made my purse a lot lighter.

What do you need that much space for, curious.
>>320146690
WD seems like a good brand, what model has the best read/write speeds?
>>
>>320148034
>10 TB

It's 5TB, I'm using RAID1 obviously so if one HDD goes bust I have all the data safe on the second one.

Never touching Seagate ever again. Two drives failed, one filled with anime, other filled with downloads. Failed without heavy use, too. I just forgot about leaving it plugged in and it failed after 2 years.

I'm sticking with WD Black for games, blue for programs, green for music.

SSD for OS and some games.

Why the fuck do your hard drives fail /v/? Mine's a 6 year old Seagate and it still kosejptdsjdgdsjgjsgsgjodjjpgogjgjjgj
>>
>>320148034
WD Black or even Red is okay. Blue and Green are shit though. I wouldn't trust them. Basically, go by the warranty. Do not accept anything less than 3yrs.
>>
I've got a 4yr 600GB Toshiba HD that I want to swap out for in my PS3, how much of a hassle is it?
>>
>>320146032
Literally anything that doesn't advertise power savings or sleep state. I tried putting my steam folder on WD green drive a year ago. Everything would stutter occasionally. Never had that problem on WD black of blue drive.

hard drives are all the same, apart from that, so get whatever.

>Blue and Green are shit though. I wouldn't trust them
The only difference between black and blue is that blues are slower.
No reason to not trust them. Warranty is probably shorter for blues because they cost less. If you're keeping backups, it's not like it matters anyway.

>>320149073
>blue for programs
if you can afford a black, why not just use a black for programs? Programs are usually small anyway, why not just use an SSD for boot?
>>
I used secondhand laptops until I left my parents house so :P I never gaf about dat shit
>>
>>320152971
>WD green
I made that mistake ages ago. Back when every electronics store was selling them. They literally go to sleep while you are in the middle of a project.
>>
>>320148034
>power on count is higher tan power on time
What the hell, why do you turn your pc on and off like twice every day?
>>
>>320153734
>They literally go to sleep while you are in the middle of a project.
They're storage drives. You're not supposed to put real-time applications on them. Their sleep time only causes a small hiccup anyway.

What, you misplaced it?

I have good luck with WesternDigital's HDDs. WD Blacks will probably be going on sale again with christmas coming up.
>>
>>320146032
If its just games on it and it dies its all stuff you can easily get back so any is okay.

I like Hitachi because they are pretty good these days. Seagate have bad fail rates.

Get nothing with power savings or green anything they are complete rubbish and have 0 use as they are slow, stutter, and wear out faster so they are poor for OS, gaming, and storage.

WD I don't care for. Use to buy a lot of their drives, but they are loud as fuck which gets annoying. Exception being their red nas drives, but hitachi beats those out too.

I moved house a couple of months ago and don't even remember unpacking it, so it could literally be anywhere.
