I liked her AC outfit, but I think it needed a better balance between the black and the white. A lot of the AC outfits had the same problem, with it just being all black leather, all the time. Even Yuffie looked like she stepped out of fucking Steamboat Willie.

In the original game, Tifa had no definite racial traits because the graphics didn't allow character models to have so much detail, even in the FMVs, so people started building their own headcanon regarding what each character should look, and sound too. That's also why there's so much shitposting about the dub.
When Square did AC and went for an Asian look, naturally that rustled the jimmies of those who didn't see it that way, supposedly because of cultural differences like mentionned above.
It's funny because every female character/love interest with dark/brown hair in the FFs that followed had an asian look once technology was able to allow such detail. So it only makes sense Tifa got the same treatment when they revisited FFVII's universe with more realistic graphics.
Being neither Japanese nor American is great in this case because I can probably see the matter with better distance.
Nomura created the character in the first place, and as soon as he was able to better define her features he went for Asian. You have the right to disagree with his vision, but it won't change the fact that's how he sees it and your opinion is just that, an opinion.
He also personally cast the VAs for the Japanese dub, which makes it the official and canon one, but of course Americlaps will defend their own (shitty) dub to the point of shitposting any thread that uses the JP trailer for the remake ...

While she does look kind of asian in AC,her other appearances have taken inspiration from the original character design with a more "anime" style which I prefer personally. I'm hoping that Nomura will go more in this direction with her FF7R design.

She's not Asian at all. Not even a little bit. Her character isn't. Her original appearance isn't. Her name isn't. She's not Asian and there's no reason for her to look Asian.
Yuffie is the Asian. She's from Wutai, which is an Asia-themed location within the game's universe.

Not to say her VII look isn't great, it's absolutely iconic, I just like the AC one a smidgen more. The sleeveless jacket and the shorts/pinnie combo just does it for me.
I think people sperg about it so hard because Yuffie is the only character from the FFVII orient who joins your party.
I think she looks okay, but weird for Tifa because her eyes are brown and weird in general because her face is strangely proportioned.

This. Much as I hate KH her outfit is fine there, and her eyes are still goddamn red. Everybody's problem in the movie is her face, which is a bit off looking whether you have an issue with her being asian or not.

It's sort of a middle ground between the two. It is slightly asian but clearly is a lot closer to the original character design than AC. The eyes are bigger and more red.
