If we can have any returning character, I really wish they could make Ice Climbers work instead of Wolf. My money on a returning character is on Wolf though, as they have a new Star Fox coming out.

I am really doubting any of the "indie reps" people want via Shovel Knight and Shantae. Don't get me wrong, I love both of these games, but both are basically unknown in Japan and I really think your game has to be globally recognized for it to be big enough for Smash.
That said they did localize Pirate's Curse over seas, and Shovel Knight got an Amiibo which must lend some recognition from Nintendo.

I've played every FE game, I understand that Lords are obviously the most important characters and typically feature swords.
I get that Marth is important too, but Ike and Robin both provide unique playstyles.
Marth, Lucina, and Roy all play very very similarly, that's three characters that could all be condensed into one. This isn't an FE game, it's Smash, why did we have to use the option of DLC to bring forward pretty much any viable nintendo character only to have one of them be a character we already have 2 of, and has already existed in a smash game before.
I want more Ryu's even though I don't play him. More characters that have new or different playstyles for the sake of variety.

Roy is functionally a clone with a balance tweak and slightly improved hitboxes.
Just because there are "twice as many brawlers" doesn't make my argument invalid in the slightest. That's child's logic.
FE has a wealth of characters to draw from, and I would even be okay with sword users if they were different.
If it was just Ike and Marth I'd be fine with that. I'm not just mad that there's an arbitrary number of swords in the game.
I know it's moot at this point to complain since they're all already there, but the fact that we had the slight possibility of adding anyone through DLC and we got a character we already played in Melee who was a slightly tweaked version of a character we already have is baffling to me.

Marth is based around spacing because of his tipper.
Roy is based on a more aggressive playstyle because he needs to get up close for his sweetspot. Plus Roy has altered moves. The variety is just as big as between Mario and Luigi if you look at it like this.
If anything cut Lucina. Having a literal 1:1 Marth clone without the tip is dumb. Make her a costume.

I would gladly cut Lucina. I get why she was made, I understand the "easy addition" aspect.
My complaint with Roy is that he came in as DLC. The entire batch of DLC characters have all had months of development to themselves.
Why take that opportunity and add someone we've already played as. Why not take the opportunity to add someone like Ryu who is genuinely unique and new to the series. He's a much more worthwhile addition. Same with Cloud. I don't give a shit about Lucas and Roy I'd rather that development be spent adding someone different and new.
Plus Lucas and Roy are similar enough I don't know how the fuck they didn't get added in initially.

not whatever anon you're posting with but I think Marth and Roy have become slightly different considering their ranges, some animations, properties (up+b and regular b) are more diverse. I wouldn't say it's akin to fox and falco but at least fox and wolf. I think a spear user or a bow user might be good representation and I don't give a shit about Lucina but I think Roy and Marth are different enough in this case.
