I cannot stress this enough.

This is my personal GOTY and it surpasses the original in every conceivable way.

It runs in native 1080p and keeps a mostly stable 30fps. Despite this, it looks abso-fucking-lutely fan-fucking-tastic. I imagine it will look even better on PC, and I can't wait to see how our PS4bros love the game as well.

My only complaint is the input lag for the camera on Xbox One. Normally you wouldn't notice it, but there are a few shootouts (ESPECIALLY in the last few missions of the game) where I was thrown off. Mainly a problem if you play on the harder difficulties (Seasoned Raider, Survivor). Otherwise, it's not TOO bad.

I wish I had taken more screenshots. I only have this one. The game really is a work of art.

Disclaimer: I'm not paid by MS/SE and I'm no shill. I just bought the game on a whim because I loved the first one, and holy shit it blew every single one of my expectations out of the water.

Ok, why is that?

So do many other AAA games. Is gameplay any different from TR2013?
>>
how's the gameplay? tomb puzzles? shooting mechanics? is there crafting? level design is good?

all i heard was
>silky smooth 30fps
>graphics

if i wanted graphics i'd have bought ea battlefront

I have it to, the gameplay is pretty solid. The shooting feels nice, the bow is still the best from any series. Scavaging feels more important this time around as well.

There is some Arkham tier stealth sections, where no one will notice you 2 feet above their heads, but it's still fun to jump down and perform stealth kills.

The level design is really nice too, some backtracking involved. Mostly for extra/secret passages once you aquire new gear.

Overall, if I had to give it a number score, I'd say 8/10. Possibly 8.5.
>>
Do we get actual puzzles this time? Are the QTEs still around?
>>
>>320103559
Is this like the first one in which you kill tons of dudes and almost never solve any puzzle or raid any tomb?

If so this game can fuck off

>>320103786
If you played TR2013, then you know how this one plays. There's more open hub-like areas you can fast travel back and forth to, and more campfires to make it less tedious (each campfire use requires materials on Survivor difficulty). Crafting uses few ingredients (more on higher difficulties) and there is more weapon variety this time around, though if you're like me you just stand back and use the bow almost the whole game. I only used the shotgun/assault rifle once I got to the Deathless Warriors and even then I had a shit-ton of melee skills so I took them out in a few hits if they got too close.

Why? It's an improvement over the last game in all reguards, and it's pretty fun. It's not the greatest gift from the gaming gods, but it's worth picking up if you enjoy this style of game.
>>
>>320104156
Oh, so it's uncharted for xbone w/ Nathan Drake's sister.
Maybe I'll pick it up when it's $10 or so.

I for one agree! Square Enix's Rise of the Tomb Raider, developed by cutting-edge development studio Crystal Dynamics, is a high octane balls-to-the-wall romp is sure to satisfy any gamer. The graphical mastery showcased is second to none! Don't listen to any trolls, Rise of the Tomb Raider from Square Enix will make for the perfect stocking stuffer this holiday season whether you are an experienced Tomb Raider fanatic or new to the series! I would highly recommend it to my fellow 4Chan friends

The tomb puzzles are optional again, but the perks you're rewarded with are more than worth it. Each tomb gets gradually more difficult, however there wasn't a single time I felt truly stuck. Longest time I spent in a tomb was around 35 minutes, mostly because I'm not great at water puzzles. Level design is fantastic, and encourages revisting old areas once you obtain newer items. Most missions were linear, but as I said in another post, there are a lot of hub-like areas where you can roam, hunt, gather materials, etc.

>>320104110
QTE's are for melee finishers/dodge counters, but there's none for the final boss fight if that's what you're worried about. (It's actually a brety gud fight, surprisingly)

>but there's none for the final boss fight if that's what you're worried about.
I'm more worried about the overall game. dodge counter prompts are one thing, instant death QTEs in random places another thing altogether, and those sucked ass in TR2013.
>>
>>320104246
Cutscenes and scripted sections render the game at 900p for better visuals (smoother models, higher-res textures, facial/body animations, etc.) but unfortunately that's where the framerate takes a hit.
I'm just glad it never happens during actual gameplay.

>>320104378
I love uncharted, too ;_;

>>
>>320104591
>900p and still can't make stable 30 fps

This is what we're stuck with for another couple years.
>>
>>320104525
No insta-death QTEs unless you're already at less than 50% health. I let one slip past me with a deathless warrior (fucking insane melee damage) and I managed to have enough strength to run 4 and a half feet before getting hit with a fire arrow.

There's the "Press Y to instakill" when you're behind an enemy (or above if you purchase that perk) but I feel like that's justified, since it's part stealth in a lot of sections

Like movies, almost all games are genre games. They have similar stories (or lack of one like Tetris), themes, and iconography. Tomb Raider is an exploration game with themes of abandonment, the supernatural, sexuality; and crypts around various parts of the globe. The enemies were the environment and exotic animals.
TR2013 had almost none of that. It was a third person shooter with RPG elements, themes of friendship, the supernatural, adulthood; and was restricted to one location. It had none of the traditional puzzles which made the game popular and pretty much eliminated any hints of sexuality (besides some shitty rape allusion, thus victimizing Lara rather than "empowering" her).
It isn't a TR game, its a shooter RPG staring Lara Croft. It's something like Mario Kart, except that Lara on her own can't carry a game outside the genre that defined her.
>>
>>320105187
I've enjoyed the games. You don't have to if you don't want to. I agree, it isn't the same as the old games, but it's good if you like the current genre it fits into.
>>
>>320103559
the story is Ass but that gameplay, mm, mmm.
shame there's no survival/horde mode
