You know what gets me? Why Mario? Of all characters why one of gamings most vanilla, one dimensional non characters.
I played my share of Nintendo games. I enjoyed them. But I never once really felt in any way shape or form invested in this character's or even Link's plight. He's just a block of pixels. He doesn't say anything of note, he doesn't feel anything, he doesn't have anything that makes him at least in some small capacity a person.

For example this here is Trance. She basically can astral project.
At one point there was a story where they had to go into a different pocket dimension to rescue some kid and only Trances powers could do it.
So instead of having her step up and have her moment to shine the fucking writers have Rogue do it instead, because she can use the powers better than the person who had them from the start. A perfect chance for an interesting character with a cool power to do something unique stolen so the author's pet can be the super special snowflake.
