I prefer Still Alive but they are both good man.
>listened to the dev commentary of Portal 2 a couple weeks ago
>mfw Valve's ridiculous level of focus testing
It's fucking retarded.
It sounds like if a tester didn't understand what to do for longer than a quarter of a second they'd redesign the entire fucking room just to make sure babby could get the puzzle.
Meme game or THE meme game?
>>320061474
They had to cater to the majority of normal people. After all, they want more sales. Making the game simpler in reason, attracts more customers.
Making the person think they were smart for clearing a level makes them satisfied.
There is probably other reasons. It's why Half Life 2's maze like elements were removed.
>>320061474
That's quality, then. It shows they care about their products at the very least.
You can't say that for the majority of videogame companies.
>>320061474
>they put a little section before a puzzle room where you just portal across a gap because players forgot the basic mechanics of the game after getting too familiar with the gimmicks>mfw I forgot even with that hint and was stuck in the puzzle room for an embarrassingly long time

True.

>>320058874
Yaknow, something I never understood about Wheatly: was he the Blue Core from Glados in Portal 1 that you disposed of, the whole talk about being designed to dumb her down in 2, or was he always a service unit that had secondary uplink to her across the facility and did fuckall whatever with the storage units?
And if he was the blue core from P1, how the fuck did he get out of the incinerator?
>>320058874
Still Alive is much better.

i think he was designed to be one of those cores, but scrapped for some reason, maybe for being too dumb. It would also explain the adventure and space cores
>>320062424
>worst fucking Cave Johnson impression
Someone didn't play through the game long enough to realize this is intentional.
>>320062424
>What is it?
You have a little clip board thing that lets you "record" your actions and then play them back.
For example, the simplest puzzle is opening a door with a button. You press record, walk on the button, stand on it for a couple seconds, stop recording, walk to the door and hit "play", then a non-controlled entity is spawned in that mirrors your actions, stepping on the button and allowing you to move on.
>>320062580
I know it's not supposed to be the actual CJ, it's just, they could have at least TRIED to sound more like him.
>>320062708
You're missing the entire point. Go back and play through the game.
>We'll never see Aperture Science again until Half-Life 3 with their mutated crow enemies.Isn't it great?
>>320062771
I would but I already uninstalled it.
>>320061578
>>320062853
If your favorite part about the Portal series was the puzzles, you really don't want to pass up on playing. These are definitely the hardest among the games.
>>320062482
That it kind of would... the cores and Glados were all designed to be modular entities you could pop on or off just about any attachment point in the facility, but Glados was the only one with any real brain behind it.
Each of the personality cores was simply given an idea or concept and thrown into a spherical storage unit.
Wheatley happened to be one of several iterations of the "blue" core, those being outright idiocy, cake, and lord knows what else.
He was also probably the first, but deemed "too good" for his purpose so they relegated him to "automated" stasis management for the next several thousand years after everyone died and testing went into full swing.
I like this idea. Now we just need a Portal 3 with 4 man Co-Op chaos.

I say just watch someone play it on youtube. In all honesty its just a lego game with a crap ton of great references and great gags. I played through part of it with my nephew and it was really like any other lego game. But what made me really enjoy playing it was all the neat little references. I mean, there is literally a part where you summon Hal 9000 to distract GlaDos. I'm not joking and its great. But all of it is really just novelties. Really funny novelties, but novelties none the less. Going around in a fully legoized Springfield or hill valley in the extra level packs was fun tho.

I was just about to say this.
They were some of the best puzzles I've ever encountered in a non-puzzle game.
It's a shame the only ones that requires you to think really hard and find the fastest possible route were the hidden bonus ones, all the compulsory ones were easily finished with 20secs to spare and the only Challange was figuring out how to open it.
The bonus ones required you to constantly redo recordings to shave off a few seconds.

Portal 2 is arguably the masterpiece of serio-comedy games. I can't think of one game that does that mix of humor with actually "oh what the fuck, is this for real? Oh god it is..." plot at the same time as well as P2.

Th part where you shoot the portal at the moon was a much bigger "wait they arent doing it, arent they?" moment for me

This shit made me tear up a little when I first played through it. Why am I such a faggot?
Fucking Valve make more single player games. I want to go on another adventure.
Portal was a better game but Portal 2 had a great ending. I'm glad they firmly and decisively ended it, more of the same after that would have been bad.
So what was it in Portal 2 that disappointed you, /v/? Any element or removed content?
I remember being mildly disappointed over the turret-sucking vents that were featured in the days of placeholder Wheatley, and somewhat upset that the chamber in the "food for thought" trailer didn't come to the game.
>>320067163
It was probably the rare moments of "cinematic" first person cutscenes a Valve game had. Ending felt epic the first time I go to it. I was almost sorry that Wheatley was lost in space, but at least he's not alone.

Cave Johnson.
He was hilarious but after a while I thought about it and couldn't stand him. It's pretty retarded that the founder and CEO of a company on-par with Black Mesa was basically a belligerent cartoon character.
You got a serious and gritty tone once you stepped out of the training rooms and into the facility proper in the first game. It felt like a real place.
In Portal 2 Aperture Science is this huge fantasy facility with J. Jonah Jameson yelling at you over the loudspeakers about moon rocks, lemons, and armies of mantis-men. As funny as it was the tonal shift really detracted from the game for me.
robots ftw > still alive > want you gone
I'm pretty sure Want You Gone being trash was deliberate to discourage memeing
>>320067321
I honestly forgot about the Pneumatic Diversity Vents. I think they were removed because there wasn't really a lot you could do with them. Seeing them suck old tiles off the walls and them being replaced by new panels was cool though.
>>320067163
There was some mod I can't recall the name of it that continued where 2 left off, I've only seen the trailer, I never played it but it was a very cheeky way of continuing the story in Aperture
Basically when Chell is on the surface looking at all the wheat and whatnot the walls come crashing down and the whole thing was just like big TV screens or some shit and it was like a studio or whatever, it's was pretty neat.
