FF4 was my first FF. For some reason I really liked the setting. The airships, the mode7 intro and the red wings music. The mist dragon. Going to the moon. rydia doing a time skip. cecil's change to paladin. kain. etc.
These are things I still really like. The game is too simple gameplay wise and I don't actually like many of the other characters.

Palumpolem was a huge area, you got a really nice sense of the size of the city.
The only thing I'll say about XIII is that it wass obvious that you were supposed to spend way more time in and see way more of Cocoon, and I'm sad that they cut all that content/dropped it in XIII-2.

Because graphical capability informs gameplay. In FFVI, you could go anywhere, but there was nothing to look at. In XIII, you could see a lot of pretty stuff that you couldn't necessarily go to (like in real life). People want to act like XIII was some Dead Space/Doom shit where you were stuck in literal hallways. It was not. The narrative pushed you along a path, just as in VI, except now you had some nice views along the way.
I still maintain that the vast majority of XIII hate is for SE changing the battle system, but because anyone who actually played it knows that it's objectively one of the best in the series, people unconsciously default to arguing a point that only takes a small fallacy to seem legitimate.
