I'm in need of an old school RPG, how is this?
It has mixed reviews, but I don't know if that's because it's actually a bad game or because it's not a game everyone will like.

Have you played all the Infinity Engine (Baldur's Gate/Icewind Dale/Planescape) games? If not then go play those.
It's really not very good, and it's not "old school" because it's a modern game pretending to be, but the only similarities it shares is the grid-based movement.
If you want an old-school RPG, you're better off just playing an actual old-school RPG.
it's OK. not great.
Play Temple of Elemental Evil, if you haven't.

Grimrock clone, and not what I'd call good

You're a fucking retard mate.

It's fun, and worth a playthrough. Not the best game ever, mind you.
It's somewhat more shallow than earlier Might and Magic games, there are no really crazy spells like flying because muh scripted progression. Still, plenty of fun spells.
The main story is fairly linear and the whole game is much less open than earlier MM games, but there are a few optional dungeons and a bunch of interesting puzzles. If you want a decent challenge, play on hard mode, but bring at least two casters. Normal is way too easy if you ever played similar games.
Also, learn the fucking word "palimpsest", just because. You'll need it.

It's a billion times more complex than Grimrock, though. Far more spells and classes and actually has quests and an overworld rather than just a dungeon.

Thanks, mate.

it's like grimrock but turnbased. I really enjoyed it
Good game. Not amazing, but admirable considering the shoestring budget they were working on.
Definitely worth a play through
