How did everything go SO wrong?
I finally picked this up during PlayStation's Black Friday sale or whatever, and having now finished it, I have to wonder how this was even made by the same people who made Hotline Miami. What a fucking mess.

>I have to wonder how this was even made by the same people who made Hotline Miami. What a fucking mess.
Come on dude, it's like a shameless fucking rehash of the first game but with faster movement speed. Get real.
>>320045270
I'm saying they got everything that was good about the first game wrong to the point I can't believe it's not some hackjob made other people
>>320045045
>implying it's any different from the first one
Only redeemable qualities are the art style and music, gameplay is mostly shit and the biggest problem is that it makes retards feel smart
git gud
>>320045498
>gameplay is mostly shit
this is the problem
the first one had tight and fair, but challenging, gameplay
this is just a big clusterfuck
Windows, too many open spaces, too many times where you get shot from offscreen. Has anyone used the level editor?
>>320047708
yes
>>320045045
They doubled enemy sight-range so you can get shot from offscreen. Whereas in the first they could be looking right at you and as long as you were farther than like 5 meters from them they wouldn't do shit.
For a game about reacting to incoming enemies it turned everything into a cover-hogging slog, great fucking work. Closest they managed to get to the original game is The Son and the The Fan's close-knit levels.
Best Gameplay: 2
Most Challenging: 2
Most Content: 2
Best Music: =
Best Story: 1
Best Level Design: 1
Best Masks: 1
They're both pretty good.
not enough Miami Mutilator, easily the coolest and best part of the game
you guys like the Miami Mutilator, right? he's sweet
>>320049129
>Most Content: 2
the problem is like 70% of 2's levels suck
>>320049292
>Pardo and Beard's abominations
Wake me up inside.

>Best Gameplay: 2
>literally the same as 1's with less weapons
>better
the fuck you smokin nigga
Hotline Miami 2's story was confusing as fuck. So much shit to piece together and in the end it was all for nothing.
>>320049478
Beard's levels made me want to fucking kill myself
fucking stupid ammo bullshit
>it's a "make an awful sequel on purpose because you're mad your game got popular" episode
>>320049802
I literally get PTSD every time I hear this
I get PTSD just seeing the name and having it play in my head
Fuck you
>>320045045
>Focus on guns
>Bigger rooms means less flow and leads to more offscreen deaths
>Failed attempt at a Quentin Tarantino-esque story
>Characters can only be used on certain levels
>Music doesn't loop properly
>Level editor took 9 months to come out, still in beta
Basically, they took all the good stuff from the first game and threw it in the trash and shat this out.
>>320049959
The ai in the hm1 was absolute ass. Atleast in 2 you get blown the fuck out for having shitty reaction time and you move faster. Sniping niggas from across the map was pretty fun too.
>>320050280
worst of all, the music's not even as good
>>320050395
>The music's not even as good
>>320050536
I personally didn't find any of the tracks as memorable as the stuff from the first game, though that may change with time I guess
>>320049802
>it took me two hours to beat this on hard mode
>>320050837
I bought the game day 1 and had the soundtrack on my phone for a good 9 months. I've grown a liking to a lot of the songs over the 9 months, but none of the songs in 1 grew on me as much.

>not being able to melee the whole game
>game requires you to use guns.
Fucking stupid.
I still liked it, but its fucking stupid.
I'll replay the first Hotline pretty often, I've never picked up Hotline 2 after I beat it once.
>>320051329
>I have to use all the options available with me instead of using the same stupid strategy the whole game! That's fucking bullshit!
Literally DSP 2bh ƒam
>>320051651
>>I have to use all the options available with me
but if you ever don't use guns you lose except at very specific points
>>320049478
>>320049802
>mfw trying to beat that fucking boat level for the first time
That was horrible, but it still wasn't as bad asTakeover on hardmode. That almost killed me in real life.
>>320051770
>I'm so bad that I have to use guns at every point in the game
Don't make me say it
>>320051951
>just kill the guys at the end of the hallways that are longer than your camera with a melee weapon
>>320052115
If you didn't beat every Fan/Son level with Tony/Knuckles you haven't really lived senpai
>>320050183
That's the thing that irritated me the most about 2. Dennaton tried to make the follow-up to HM subvert the original game as much as possible. All of the cool, engaging elements got replaced with:
>Convoluted, excessive story that lacks subtly and has no stakes or interesting characters
>Interesting masked characters that were shown in the trailer are underutilized and get replaced by a whole caste of boring literally whos who don't wear masks
>Huge expansive rooms where every enemy either has a gun or is a fat bastard, thus requiring you to use guns as well
>Dying is the most agonizing thing in the world because it means you have to the whole massive floor over again
>"Everyone dies, lol" ending where nothing is resolved
It's as though they thought thatit's good to show contempt for your audience.
>>320045045
Changing the game play to requiring you to exclusively use guns to snipe at enemies you couldn't see was a mistake. Also:
>First game's story is subtle, simple, straight-forward, and engaging
>Second game's story is blatantly spelled out for you and needlessly complicated at the same time (somehow), and populated entirely by boring characters that get two levels before being killed off
Also, fuck the ending.
>>320053390
>First game's story is straight-forward and engaging
>Second game has boring characters
I take this shiggy, and I diggy
>>320053617
HM1 kept it simple and its story is almost classic as a result
HM2 had a few interesting characters but did very little with them. The pointless nuking didnt help
>>320054495
I wouldn't praise 1's story that much. The anachronic order of the Beard visits is dumb, and there's few notable events in between that. It works for the game, but it's not worth calling it classic.
The only character arcs in 2 I thought needed more were the Fans and Evan. The story was a wild ride and I liked how something important happened in almost every level. The nuke ending was disappointing, but not enough for me hate the rest of the game. It's not the greatest story of all time, but it was more entertaining than the first game.
>>320045270
>first game
>game is about running between rooms smashing peoples' skulls in with bats chaining dozens of kills
>second game
>sitting in a tiny room trying to inch out enough that you won't get shot by four people but far enough that it lures two people in the next room into your area so that you can shoot them
>shot by an off-screen guy behind a barricade
>>320056112
>sitting in a tiny room trying to inch out enough that you won't get shot by four people but far enough that it lures two people in the next room into your area
I'm glad it wasn't just me then. I knew I was playing "wrong" but didn't think there was some obvious fix besides this tedious shit
Never got shot off-screen and I played both games a few times, what are you doing wrong?
>>320045045
For a short while I liked it, even though the writing was way more on-the-nose than the first game. The bigger levels were annoying, but I could deal with it. Then I got to the Hawaii parts, where you can only pick up ammo from boxes on the level. That's too bullshit for me to defend.
I could have sworn they said the level editor was coming to PS4 a while back, but now that they've clarified otherwise, I can delete the game and never play it again.
