I'm 25 and when I have friends over we either play stuff like army of two / gears of war on xbox 360 or smash and mario kart on n64 / gamecube. There's no reason to buy a new console if all you get is a newer version of essentially the same game.
Dominating a market at a moment doesnt necessarily mean monopoly. Sony, Microsoft and Nintendo all share a monopoly over the games industry. Sony is just selling like hotcakes right now because they didnt make a shit console.

Monopoly = 100%
A monopoly is where only one company sells their product and no other company does because they were all bought out by the bigger company.
It is sort of similar to how EA bought a lot of smaller companies and then sat on their IP's, preventing future good games, forcing others to buy their shit but on an even grander scale.
Cars used to be a monopoly because there is only one engine plan, so everyone had to deal with the monopoly company at the time until Ford came along and fought it in court.

The real question is the PS2, not the Wii. PS4 currently seems to have the same track record than the PS2 when you align the release dates of NA/EU of the PS4 with the NA/EU release of the PS2 and then do the same for both release dates of the Japanese market.
PS4 has sold in 2 years 31M consoles (or more) and the third year is usually the year where Sony consoles sold usually the best (mostly because it is when they traditionally made their first $100 price cut). PS4 did its first price cut of $50 2 months ago (PS2 took almost a year and a half) for next years holidays I will not be surprised to see a PS4 go for $250 (with a real price cut of $300 some months previous to BF), 2016 is going to be even more of a beat down of the PS4 fucking the asses of MS and Nintendo.
