There's also a horrifying lack of quality control (to this day I have no idea how shower with your dad was able to get through). There's also the paid mods fiasco which was terribly handled.

The problem with DRM has always been retarded and terrible invasive execution which, without fail, does fuck all to stop people from ripping and pirating the game. It can be done correctly, as Steam has amply demonstrated, by not being heavy handed while also providing services and conveniences. One of the biggest services that I haven't seen brought up yet is ease of content updates. It's far easier to update a game on steam than it is on console, and that provides value beyond the initial purchase.
