I had a very interesting childhood experience with the game. I had a Gamecube Action Replay. I beat both Adventure games before cheating, o'course. I was no scrublord. I spent countless Saturdays looking up codes online for character swaps, moon jumps and the like. I learned a lot about how games are put together by experimenting with different characters in stages and boss fights where they were never meant to be. I enjoyed seeing what crashed the game and what didn't.
I love both of the Adventure games to death, but I don't think they're the best that 3D Sonic can do. I think there's much more potential in 3D Sonic that has yet to be realized by Sonic Team proper that fangames are already beating them to.

Sonic Worlds, while a little sloppy has some good ideas and a good amount of replayability. Sanicball, while a satire of the franchise has an emphasis on rolling physics and manipulation of the terrain to your advantage, making it one of the most faithful 3D adaptations of the Classic formula I can think of. Then there's this in-progress one that's slated to come out in a few months.
