To be fair its a neat idea.
I found it interesting how with some parts of beyond if you "fail" you basically get booted out. Like you could totally fail the scene where you go into the contaminated science lab as a teen and get kicked out. Thats pretty fucking rad.
But what happens? Absolutely nothing, it effects nothing other than you miss out on a portion of the game, you get a little bad-end ending scene and then rest of the game is the same and its never mentioned again.
Then the rest of the pseudo-game overs is aiden literally bailing you out every time.
But what I'm getting to is that the concept is still cool. Take a generic GOOD game, you're fighting a boss and die. Instead of a game over you awaken being nursed back to health, get a bit of story about how the big bad thought you were so pittyful that he left you to rot, maybe even you're missing a limbs/gear or are affected with a weak-debuff for a couple of in-game days. All of this totally optional.
See where I'm getting with this?

David Cage is the Tommy Wiseau of video games, and his games are delightful because of how unaware he is of sappy melodrama and cliches.

yeah, if anything I'm "excited" (david cage game level excited) for this game just to see how accurate it is to the few landmarks the city has. the trailer looked pretty interesting in that regard. few shots were like a futuristic version of my everyday commute, very spooky.
