Matter of opinion I guess. I think the metascore of 94 is well deserved. That being said, I would probably also put Bastion around that score. Undertale just left me marginally more satisfied.
I mean. The game is fucking fun to play and the writing is exceptional. And it was short enough to not get stale, with handcrafted content for every single part of the game.

I thought it was okay for around the 80 minutes I played then I got bored of it and never went back to it. Refunded it and spent the money on something else.
So pirating is the only option.
Play the demo. You want more after it? Get the full game. Don't care about playing more of it? Then don't get it.

It's worth it IMO. Not the most amazing thing ever nor complete shit like both ends of /v/ blow it out to be. If you want Earthbound + lite bullethells and choice, go for it.
I pirated it and got up to the fish bitch, it's pretty fun so far, I'll probably buy it if it goes on sale.

Listen, I'm not going to kid you. Undertale is Yume Nikki meets Mario Paint Fly Swatter. That said, it's my GOTY. I poured hours into this game for nights on end with my cat beside me and a nice pint of Häagen-Dazs... Just taking in this masterpiece. I feel sorry for most of /v/. They'll never understand what an amazing game this is. I would open my heart and wallet to them if I could, but they'd probably never play this game even if I gifted it to them on Steam. What a bunch of basic haters. Anyway, I recommend it. Avoid this board like the plague until you at least finish your first playthrough.

It's a bit odd, I fucking love Undertale but I still know that it's got flaws. Not enough different random encounters, there's at least one character who's "thing" is pointed out over and over again, I'd have liked Genocide to have all the bosses made harder (not all as difficult as Undyne/Sans, just to give you a warm up). These are just minor nitpicks, it'd be like saying Alpha Centuri is shit because spamming supply crawlers is the best way to play.
Of course, there's still the demo, I assume anyway.
But seriously, how great is this soundtrack.

For $10, it's a fine game. I found it interesting that you can finish the game without having to fight anyoneexcept the second to last boss, Asgore where you have to fight him but have an option to kill or spare him. Otherwise, the fan base behind it is just like any other, shit. Try to take a grain of salt from both the fan base and those who do nothing but shit on it. I'd definitely have to say it is far over rated however, but something nice and easy to kill some time. Pretty good ost as well.
