Well he isn't wrong, the nostalgiababies who basically just want their childhood memories over and over again are a big reason why many video game series have gone down the shitter. However in FF's case it's something that has been happening since the SNES days, less focus on gameplay and more on story and graphics.

Dragon Quest is a pretty nice series that's stayed true to its core that picks up new audiences all the time. Strange how Squeenix didn't fuck them up as well.
I'm not sure how I feel about these Final Fantasy VIII threads everyday. 8 has genuinely been my favoritewell either that or 10, hard to pick; and while I think it's great some people are liking it, I can't help but feel this has something to do with the VII remake. I feel like FF8 is going to become the new Majora's Mask in the same way Ocarina of Time was seen as the best Zelda ever before the hipsters came and liked it more simply because it was less popular than OOT. MM has been my favorite since I picked it up launch day and same with FF8. I don't care about being the guy that liked the cool things before they were cool, but I wish people would just be honest about what they like instead of trying to purposely be diverse or an individual.

Underrated imo. They make some odd choices with the story, but the world itself is great. Fantastic OST. The storytelling with Laguna flashbacks is well done too

My personal favorite of the series, even though I get why it's a mixed bag for so many fans of the series. It introduced me to JRPGs and FF, and despite the corniness of the love story I still really enjoy it. Doesn't hurt that the world is gorgeously realized, and has some of Uematsu's absolute best work on the soundtrack.
