Get the SNES FFIII (USA) Rom and get Woolsey's Uncensored mod. It has the GBA translation with some tweaks to make it similar to the SNES version and as well has the original ost and is uncensored.
It is the closest version to be like the Japanese FFVI (JP).

The music can be patched that's true enough but even with the patch GBA's graphics are still grainy and don't pop as much as the SNES.
I just emulated both SNES and GBA back to back and they're fresh in my mind right now.

The GBA port even with extras and patches would be a fine experience but I just built a new fucking PC with a GTX 970 and the shit emulators for GBA still give me stuttering. Small stuff like animations for enemies fading away and graphics for the spells are also dumbed down for the GBA. Also because the GBA screen is a different ratio everything seems cramped on the screen especially in battles.
My suggestion is playing the GBA version on GBA but graphically it still isn't the best version. That'd be the SNES or PS1 version but PS1 is fucked due to the load times.
I just want a patch for the SNES version that basically takes the GBA script changes at this point.

I don't even know who the hell sqeenix paid to do this. It might've been they hired an executive's son's middle school computer club or something to do it.
FF4 and FF6 were the games that challenged western RPGs. The length, scope and game stories were grand. For some reason Japan likes the one about the potato kids and Butz which was about...meteors, ExDeath and the origin of Gilgamesh tripping and falling into a dimensional rift which made Gilgamesh showing up in FF games become a recurring joke? I don't really remember them all distinctly since they all sort of bleed together.

People will argue this but I literally ran both versions; SNES original and GBA with sound, graphics and font patches.

the issue that we are running into here is that they went in completely different stylistic directions with the characters, enemies, and world. In the earlier versions they made the enemies as detailed as possible with the engine, and the characters less detailed because they wanted them to be animated instead of a static image. But that issue no longer exists, with the existing technology there's no reason for the characters not to be as detailed as the rest of the world. Like they're applying a design philosophy intended for a game you'd play on a tv on the other side of the room to a game you're playing on a small screen right in front of your face.
