The sad part is, it is probably more balanced than melee but people have been playing melee for so long that we've just gotten used to it.
Inversely, if something new comes out in pm, it's pretty much universally bitched about, declared broken and patched. Maybe with development being finished, an actual metagame can develop and flourish rather than people whining that something needs to be fixed.
I'd like to see pm develop, it's my favorite smash "game", second being melee. But I doubt it'll get big. People are too content to play the same game for longer, and lug around CRTs, rather than moving on to the next game that actually had the intention of being competitive. Granted, it's status as a mod make things pretty iffy anyways so why not stick to the game with a bigger scene?
