It actually works pretty well in every single Fallout Game.
Unarmed is great in Fallout 1 since you can get your punches down to 1 Action point, hitting 10-12 times a round. In Fallout 2 you can only get them down to 2 action points but the game gives you a lot more perks and things to make unarmed more varied.
Unarmed is just fucking fun in Fallout NV. The one it suffers a little in is Fallout 3, but if you use VATS with paralyzing strike it still works pretty well.

If you used Divine Fury and whatever the dark equivalent was called in Fable, Jr basically broke the game. It's like, a 2 second channel (that you can't get knocked out of) that stuns and damages everything around you for more damage than any other spell and doesn't even use that much mana.
