I want to make a SMT fangame. I'm good at designing monsters, so I want to put that ability to the test. The problem is, my style doesn't really fit the SMT style, but I think that can easily be justified (seeing as the fact that neither do Persona and DemiKidz.)

They weren't THAT bad, the redraws for FINAL turned out quite good.
It's the fact they stopped making 3d SMTs that makes me sad, and it was probably half the reason the designs were shittier in IV (try translating them to models).

Just pick whatever you want.
Absolute entry tier would be either Persona 3 or 4. They have pretty much the same mechanics (buffs, elements, entirety of fusion) as SMTs and they are made for newbs.
Nocturne would be the next choice, it's rather easy and straightforward but you will probably be overwhelmed for a bit in the beginning. "Contains Dante from the Devil May Cry(tm) series".
You should get a good grasp if it's the series for you. If yes, feel free to expand to other branches like Devil Survivor, Raidou, DDS or older Persona.

It looks okay but i think you should focus more on the mythology that you are trying to represent.
The way Kaneko does it is making simple designs, easily recognizable with a bit of knowledge and add dicks.
Now, you can totally make something different, the problem i see with your designs is the fact that they are not recognizable.
If you didn't write Garuda i wouldn't have known what demon you were trying to represnt understand?
Now of course Kaneko did some weird shit too like Melchizedek, but try to adjust your own style so that it becomes easier to understand.
Keep it simple and you're done.
