Riki is a representation of people who aren't taken seriously because of either appearance, behavior, or general ineptitude. They have their reasons why they live that way and why they choose to behave like they do, yet people dismiss them because they don't look and act serious enough.
He's the glue guy of every team. The class clown. The mood maker. Someone who knows that if he's not being funny or otherwise, the mood of the team goes down. Motivation from a leader cannot happen if the mood is shit.
Riki didn't have any reason to join Shulk. He could have just stayed back at Colony 6 and left them alone along with Melly and the others. Yet he joined even if he was the shittiest fighter of them all. Why? Because he knew he could all help them on other things. That's why it reflects on his art palette, a jack of all trades guy. Can go DPS, can go DOT, can go heal, can go tank, etc.
Riki is the Heropon. No matter what insignificant anonhom says about him, he will always be the most significant member of that group, even if people see him as a meme.

Still early in the game (or so I'm told, last major thing I did was beat the boss that comes after HEROPON joining you and go to the castle) but Riki is a fucking boss. He annoys the shit out of me, but his arts are so fucking good. He heals, deals damage, he can topple, he's got DoTs. Fuck.

She's the most over-powered for Mid-game yeah. She has access to an Advanced level skill book for her best art hours before anyone else and she makes a great buffer. Just remember that you have to put her as lead; Melia's AI is dodgy as fuck.
Riki was amazing. I loved playing as him.
I'm really disappointed in Tatsu by comparison. He does have nice fluffy textures, at least.

Melia, Dunban, Riki and Seven are all the most broken character if you use the right gems. It's difficult to say which one is the most OP, it depends on the situation.
Melia can annihilate anything if you know how to use her, Dunban becomes fucking untouchable, Riki can walk away from the battle and watch the enemy die from all the debuffs stacking and Seven is a machinegun of critical hits that also cure her.
Shulk is also great and the one capable of delivering insane damage, also he fits perfectly in pretty much every team, while Reyn becomes incredibly useful if you are in a team with characters able to topple and daze, allowing to permatopple anyone.
Sharla has one good trick, with thunder bullet, turning her into a nuke delivering turret which can also heal sometimes, but that shenanigan doesn't always work, her needing to cool down the rifle every minute makes her the weakest character.

I didn't bother with Colony 6 or the portable gem furnace and never knew about Monado Eater or Armor until I beat the game and looked up the internet. The voice acting in X is pretty poor across the board. NPCs all sound goofy as hell, and not always in an endearing way. Elma's the only decent performance (not counting avatar voices which I haven't experienced enough to say), although considering she's pretty much the main character that's not surprising. I really miss the XBC VAs, not because they were British but because they were clearly actors who didn't usually do video games. They didn't sound like Yuri fucking Lowenthal.

It feels like the characters are just there in case you don't have online and can't scout other players. They're a set of possible builds for you to play around with, playing as them is mostly useful when you don't know what they're like and you want to see what's worth leveling. Definitely one of the downsides of the approach they took with the game.
