Is 1440p that much of a step-up from 1080 for gaming?
Not really, for desktop work it's great but for gaming 4K is the resolution to aim for.
Games themselves are still built for 1080p.

For MMO's it's the perfect resolution.
For everything else it's just moderately to slightly better since most games just scale their assets with resolution rather than camera.

It's a noticeable step up. But honesty compared to 4k its a minor difference. At this point might as well stick with 1080p for a year or 2 till 4k is cheaper then upgrade to that.
