The dungeon design is repetitive as shit, the difficulty curve awkwardly spikes at Death Mountain and the Great Palace without warning and there was no reason to have a lives system in an ARPG.
It's still a pretty good game and one of the better games on the NES. It gets too much shit for retrospectively having little to do with the later games, which all build off of LttP.

Lack of overworld map and the clusterfuck that is death mountain. The absence of combat equipment in lieu of magic is kind of shitty, but understandable given the limited input of the NES controller.
Also kinda glitchy and some weird ass translations.
