If you didn't have an AR, it's pretty much just MKDS with only 100cc Mushroom and Shell cup and the non-unlockable characters in the standard kart, with the only major difference being Figure 8 Circuit's music of all things.
With an AR, you're able to access early prototype versions of the other courses (the most different being Waluigi Pinball's) and some shitty test courses that usually crash because a CPU falls off most of the time and there's no respawn flags set for them.
