Yeah, the whole "I will decide if I'm mad or not afterwards" is not good, clearly, but it's certainly not that bad compared to abandoning everything and everyone because of some kind of severe depression/anxiety, especially considering how many times the characters, specifically Tifa, state that they're going to help him through it.
