Provided it has actual face buttons instead of touch screen buttons exclusively it could be an interesting way of cutting down the size of a handheld.
Overall it seems a cool way of integrating buttons/sticks and a touchscreen.

As long as the main screen itself is whatever resolution, and the additional space is just an add-on, this is fine.
An example 720p rectangle in the center with additional screen real-estate around the joysticks can be used exactly like a regular 720p screen, with additional potential in peripheral vision, or additional buttons around the control sticks, or any gimmick requiring quick touch screen access.
Is this only a schematic?

I like that they are actually incorporating new technology to vidya consoles and I called home consoles becoming more and more 'portable' in the future like 5 years ago.
But I have no idea where we are at with haptic feedback, which is pretty much required to great for this kinda stuff to work properly.

Those tilt buttons are, again, not demonstrative of any full design or product, they are only there for example. The Gamepad patent back in the day had the same shit drawn on for example and at no point it ended up using them.

You can see the entire screen. The rectangle in the middle is the "entire screen". Everything else is just extra. It can be used so you can see slightly more, or to add extra buttons on, or for various UI elements so that they don't clutter up the actual viewing space.

This is a patent, it means nothing. This could've been a rejected controller concept they still wanted to patent just so someone else couldn't try it. Hell, even if it's the plan for the controller now those plans can change. Anyone remember the original PS3 controller?
