I can understand nostalgia for vanilla wow but not for vanilla paladins, they were terrible and you needed so much more gear to beat people. Pve you were healbot unless you managed to snatch gear as loot council and leveling was a pain in the ass.
Why paladins were so bad in wow at the start compared to how well they made them in diablo 2 still boggles my mind.

Well, there's always a private servers. I know two that are vanilla, Nostalrius and Chronos, though I l've only played on Nost.
I have to say, as much as I think paladin leveling can be amazingly boring in vanilla, they're by far my favorite class of the time. I remember when I first started playing the game, I was a warrior. This was during TBC, and I was on an RP server. I ended up joining a guild that was some sort of order who took it upon themselves to act as guardians of Duskwood. We would hold off Horde raids of Darkshire, and help new players and lowboes so quests when they needed it. It ended up getting me to reroll a paladin, because it was just so awesome being a helpful crusader, and smiting the shit out of undead.
Really though, I suggest checking out either nost or chronos, Nost has more active players, but both are good, from what I've seen.

When WoW's playerbase drops and Blizzard starts losing money, they'll likely create official Vanilla/TBC/WoTLK servers like what Runescape did. Don't give up hope, you'll probably be able to experience it again.

Death Knights were just broken in general. I remember winning a 1v3 against people 2 levels higher than me who all had tier 5/6 gear and I was just wearing green quest rewards.

I never defended shit in WoW because nothing really attacked since the zombie outbreak event or the pre-cataclysm event.
Nothing in WoW matters. You can slay billions of undead and nothing happens. Shit, you can kill Sylvanas in the Undercity and she'd respawn later.
The game has zero cause and effect or consequences. All you're doing is raids. Raids raids raids raids and raids, essentially generic dungeons only bigger with more people.
If all people care about are raids and endgame content, then the community is also something that needs fixing.
