In Japan. Went at the end of last year, first time I'd really seen arcades.
Played SF4 mostly, dropping $100 or so. First time I'd played it, but got to watch a tournament in Osaka, and Bonchan play in Akihabara. Spent a bit of time watching the old guys in business suits play SF2, and some Japanese guy go crazy at some absurd bullet hell game.
After getting repeatedly bodied I would go downstairs and win some Evangelion figurines. Gave one to some American guy while I was in Akihabara.

Only place with more than one arcade machine in my area was the college, and the two movie theaters.
Problem is 90% of the shit they had already had home versions. None of the good sit-in arcade racers or the quirky peripheral-based shit outside of a couple light gun machines for Time Crisis & House of the Dead.
Only one pinball machine across the three locations which is hella disappointing. An Indiana Jones machine, and last I played it the shit was properly leveled.
I have never seen an arcade or anything like it irl my whole life.

There was a mall about 10 minutes from my house. I'd go there at least once a week to play DDR.
Then they got rid of it and turned it into some shitty women's fashion store.

There was a local arcade near me that had some good shit like House of the Dead 4 and F-Zero GX. I'm still kicking myself on not bringing a Gamecube memory card with me and getting the AX data when I could. I really should've done that, dammit.
Otherwise, there's a Dave & Buster's near me that has a decent selection, including one of the Mario Kart Arcade GP games, which are alright I guess.
I really wish arcades weren't dead in America, they're actually fun as hell still. It's so sad seeing that Japan gets all the cool, fun, new arcade games while we don't get shit.

I grew up in a small town, so the only arcade machines around were at the local burger place. Had house of the dead 2 and metal slug. But in the next town over they had a cinema with street fighter alpha, Daytona and pic related
