How did the whole "Goku for Smash" thing even begin? Did Snake's inclusion in Brawl really delude people so hard that they thought anyone was possible?

Bandai Namco was helping develop the game. They own the license for DBZ games. Therefor if Nintendo wanted Goku in, it was very possible.

At the time DBZ was really fucking popular, so of course people joked about how goku should be in smash.
Now we have Cloud and Ryu and bamco in smash so, now people feel like anything can go.

The thing is Goku started out as an anime character. Smash is more of a celebration of game history, and Goku doesn't really represent much history in games at all.
