Splatoon was honestly a big step in the right direction for Nintendo. Its a new IP made by new blood with some experienced leaders. Nintendo should do more of that.

Take Halo2 and remove the single player portion
Halo2 would still be more featture rich, more costumizable (gameplay wise), and offer the player more choice in map/mode selection
Do the same with every Halo up until Reach and the discrepancy would be even worse with forge and more modes in matchmaking
Splatoon introducing new shootan' gameplay mechanics and yet restricting the player so much makes me ill. The onoxious map rotation, small map selection for what is basically a MP-only game with a small campaign, content held up over months to keep the game alive, horrible split screen mode (pretty much nothing worth playing), and no costumization such as:
-1v4 mode where the lone wolf is more powerful and the person that gets to kill him switches places
-"proximity mindes only", "rockets only", etc. type of fun modes
-2vs2vs2vs2 racing
-Jumping/trap maps
-"Horde" mode
-Low health SWAT-like mode
-Shotty/Snipers mode
-Grifball or any similar mode that makes use of Splatoons physics and unique mechanics
And I could go on forever
It's a fine concept but the execution is horrible when even generic shooters over a decade old (not only halo, just so happened to use it as an example) have more variety than this game.
Splatoon could be so much more
