I took advantage of the terrain and was always looking for open spots of sprint through. Most of the mobs aggro by sight, but their field of view is pretty bad. You can literally get beside them and they won't notice. Also, keep running and hope it kills one of your team first.

affinity chats usually have you make a dialouge choice for a chance to raise affinity with a character. yellow smiley face info groups can sometimes give you these locations but for the most part they occur at certain times of the day and some need certain reqs.

Certain frames are oriented more towards melee or ranged. Pretty sure a character's passive skills applies while in the skell, so the psyorrupter or whoever's beam damage+ would work with beam weapons and such.

the only problem I see with using a longsword at end game is that the final weapon is physical when a samurai gunner skills is mostly thermal. and alot of the attacks of the samurai gunner are weapon based, but the strongest attack is thermal so you kinda have to waste a slot on getting thermal damage up just for that one skill.
