I'm 1988 born, and I played Doom for the first time somewhere between 1995-97. I was a Nintenkid, but my friend got a decent PC with lots of these classic shareware shooters.
It was also the first proper PC game I played, and it helped me get rid of my keyboard "phobia" (I thought every key would do SOMETHING to the computer).
Thanks to this game, I'm still quite fluent with KB-only controls. I've even finished some emulated 3D games with nothing but keyboard as a controller.

Later I got Doom 64 for my N64. At first, I was disappointed to realize that it was not a direct port of D1, but a brand new, much more atmospheric sequel.

1996, I didn't play Doom until I was about 12 or so, on the Xbox Live port, but I played Wolfenstein 3D a bunch on the horrible 3D-0 port. After playing Doom on the 360, I loved it, and when I found Doom 2 on Steam I loved it as well. Eventually I downloaded zDoom and the map maker, made a dozen maps, and played the shit out of the game in general. Played 1, 2, both of Final, 64, 3, and a handful of mods. I say that Ultimate Doom is my favorite game of all time, because you have to pick one game to be your #1, but I really mean that "classic" Doom games are my favorite game (1/2/F/64). I use to play solely on HMP, now I play solely on UV. I've done UV-Max and UV-Min runs of most of the games, and I play through them every few years to get that fresh Doom fix. I even wrote a 5 page college-level paper over a Doom II advertisement. Great game, 10/10, will play again.

Still played the shit out of it when I was a kid, though. And Wolfenstein, which I guess is older than me.
>>
I played the shareware version of Doom back in 93. Didn't know how to buy it back then.

Then Doom II came out on a disc made for Windows 95 which also included the DOS version.

I went to visit my grandma one December and saw she had Doom 2 on her computer. Curious, I tried opening it up but it wouldn't load without the CD in the drive. (Those were the days, huh?)

I asked my grandma where the disc was, and she pulled out a wrapped present addressed to me.

The next year, I found Ultimate Doom on the store shelf and picked it up as well.

I still have both of those CDs and many others on my computer desk.

Born in 1990.

I first experienced Doom when my babysitter in 93/94 used to come over and play it.
I was fascinated by it. It seemed like the coolest thing ever.

At the time, the on my varient of it I ever got my hands on was the Chex-Quest rip off (pictured).

A few years later I finally downloaded it onto PC.
It's still one of my favorite games and it had such an impact on me when I was really young that hyped FPS games like Goldeneye never impressed me. It wasnt until the first Halo that I was able to enjoy an FPS again like I can with Doom.

Born in 89, I remember sitting on the desk watching my dad play against his friends over telnet. I remember my dad would let me play even though my mother was against it. Atleast its much faster then Halo the base moment speed that is. But i was pretty fucking sad myself when i saw multiplayer footage and legitimately not even as a joke thought to myself "Man Halo got grimdark and fast" and then i looked the title of the video.

I mean it looks more fun then most shooters nowadays but i agree UT4 is a much better shooter if you're seeking a traditional arena shooter. I also have hopes for Inner Chains but with no footage they are just hopes.

Was born in '95, I and remember watching my brother and his friends play the game when I was like five.

I'm from slavlands, and we were the only household that actually had a computer at that time, so there were like 6 of us huddled in front of the monitor.
>>
>>319669707
i played it in 2012 as it came with the doom 3 BFG edition
>>
I first played it last year, maybe early this year even, the GBA version on an emulator, and also the DOS version on a DOS emulator.
>>
Been playing since 1996 every few months.
Best game ever for me, no questions.
I just turned 32 a month ago.

I like doom.

Shame though the new doom is called halo clone, because it's plays like halo and looks like halo. You have old enough to see how bad doom has become.

I was 7 and mormon. my mom ran a daycare and one of the kids there told me his dad had it on PC. We arranged a sleepover and waited for his parents to go to sleep. It was one of the most memorable nights of my life. We were scared and thrilled at the same time and didn't sleep a wink. Life will never be that rad again.

Well you're missing out on the official sequel to Doom 2 and ending of the series.

Besides, there's been a PC version for a while now.

Like 3 weeks ago. I grew up with consoles so I just never got around to it. GOAT game though, I can see why it was so influential.

Is there a point to buying Doom off Steam if you can play it using GZDoom? id doesn't even get the money anymore
>>
>>319703735
Carmack said he doesn't care if you pirate it. Nobody from the development team sees a dime of the money.
So yes, there is no point to buying the originals anymore.
>>
>>319701531
Barely is good enough for me, I love DOOM
>>
>>319669707
Not the first time, but one time I beat doom on a blackberry while waiting in an airport

It must have been 1994 when I first played Doom shareware because it was well before my family got their own PC in '95. I played it on a 486 DOS system with a turbo button. As I recall they needed to use a special boot disc to have enough free memory to run Doom. When I got my own PC (Pentium 133 Mhz) I suffered the Doom 95 version (also shareware.) The first full Doom game I ever played was Final Doom which I rented (renting installable PC games, what a joke!) which also used Doom 95 as an executable. I never played proper doom.exe and doom2.exe (and the full wads) until a few years later. I'm not sure where I got them from now, because the only commerical versions of Doom I have ever seen in Australia use Doom 95 and do not include the DOS executables.

Born in '90, first time saw some dudes playing doom in the school library when I was 8yrs old on msdos computers.

My tiny child mind was blown. They even had LAN matches. I used to spectate with other friends and watch in awe as the more older students at the school were going at it.
>>
>>319687760
Did they ever use these sprites? I don't think I've ever seen him severed in half like that.
