Someone just told me that AoE II got a new expansion recently, holy shit. I used to love the game as a kid, I can't believe that new content is still being developed for it.
Is it any good? How do the new factions play?

the game has 2 new expansions.
The first one was called ''The forgotten'' which added 5 new factions to the game: (the Italians, Indians, Slavs, Magyars, and Incas).
Both comes with a campaign and a populated multiplayer. Its never been a better time to get back into the game!

I like teaming up with a friend of mine who's really terrible. He always builds a ton of farms so I get to protect him while his villagers enjoy their comfy. <3
AoE II is dumb early RTS garbage.
I mean, sure, it might be fun for some people, but I can't suspend my disbelief with the bizarre mechanics that much. Total War is way more fun and doesn't require resource-management or micro.

portugese's UU is OP as fuck if you don't have mangonels to counter them, the other civs are better woad warriors and axemen from what I hear

just play anno or settlers or something. AoE and similar RTS games are incredibly shallow as far as city building goes, you're basically just trading space for some unit to have +1 of something

Really enjoying Ethiopia. Their unique is cheap and terrible, but builds almost instantly, they flow from castles like a river.
