Ganon is a "read" character
read characters have infinite potential. They only have to touch you once or twice to end your day. The problem is they require the player to be 2-3 steps ahead of his opponent at all times for an entire tournament.

Samus is only good in Melee because of a LEGITIMATE Glitch, aka the Super Wave Dash she can pull off with her bombs. If she couldn't she'd be down there with Link and Young Link, who also used to be considered pretty good when they had the Boomerang Jump Glitch in the earliest releases.

Much better than the previous tier list, and about time it got an update. I hated how all the characters were lumped into S tier, when the viable of half of them were really depatable. This better reflects that Marth is a good character, while Ice Climbers is not, and more accurately portrays viability information to new players. It also helps breaking down the idea that only S tiers should be played. Now, new players can see lower tiered characters do well, and may get more inspired to pick up Samus or Pikachu.
The tier list will probably need an update in near future, though. Yoshi will drop soon, and may end up a tier lower. Also talks about Luigi, hopefully people can push him up a tier.

The lists keep changing because the metagame keeps changing. In 2010 Yoshi was considered one of the worst character in the game at 21st best. Now, mostly due to the efforts of amsa, he's at 12th best. Before then there really never was a high placing yoshi player, so nobody knew what the character could do.

Melee is faster, feels better to play, and has way more combo potential. Smash 4 is fun, but its gameplay possibilities are so much smaller. We're not afraid of change, we just choose the better option.

You are more likely to win aganst someone who doesn't know the matchup at all with Bowser. His punishes are harder, so you have a greater chance to win before he figures out the matchup. With Kirby, you are so weak they can really take their time to figure it out.
I heard Kirby actually has a neutral game, though, and the matchup vs. Marth is winnable, and if this is true, then Kirby should probably be rated higher. If he really can win a GF against a top Marth solo main ...

I'm pretty sure 1.00 predates most Melee tournaments. Link was only strong in 2001 because no one knew how to deal with Up-B out of shield.
And super wavedashing only works in very specific situations. Samus is pretty good because she has a decent wavedash and good tilts, high survivability and apparently an even matchup vs Fox.

Tier Lists are based mostly on Tournament results.
Yoshi has been placing high in tournament results because of aSMa. It's the same reason why Jiggs is so high on the tier lise even though the only notable player is Hbox.
