PC master race wins again!

This is the best controller since the Gamecube controller.
>>
its actually good. i'd use it for sure over a 360 controller.

give it 6 bigger buttons and make the touch pad on the left smaller and i'd even use it for fighting games.
>>
>>319651182
Is it actually any good? Looks like it'd be awkward to hold
>>
>>319651182
I don't even know where I have mine right now. Tried to play simple platformers and it sucked, no matter what I tried.
>>
Had a chance to use one, it feels weird, and you MUST use big picture mode. I just bought a wired xbone controller instead.
>>
>>319652970
Finished plague of shadows with my steam controller using touch pad. Good shit
>>
>>319653254
yeah its exclusivity to steam sucks, but i can play my whole steam library.

I imagine at some point it will be supported outside of steam.

>>319653427
i'd still use a dpad for 2d shit.

no. the great thing about pc is that you're not limited to one or two types of input
>>
>>319651182

Not until dedicated drivers come out that let you use it in anything but Big Picture.

Also, is there a way to get the trackpads to register TAPS instead of clicks? Like tapping the pad but not actually performing a full, mechanical click of the pad.

>>
>>319651182

I guess it could be okay for some super casual gaming like most console games

But touchpads are shit, nothing like that shit can replace the physical feedback of a button press

How are the underside bumpers?
Would they be good to bind gearshift controls to in a racing game?

Xbone Elite Controller > Every other controller
>>
>>319653734
you can play nonsteam games by adding them as a third party game to your steam library, basically just a steam shortcut for a nonstaem game.
>>
>>319654994
Probably, but at least for me, it's still a bit of a trip for there to be inputs there, so it's hard to remember to use them. Reminds me of when I was a kid and couldn't get used to the SNES having shoulder buttons.
>>
>controler

But i always hear how pcfags spout how controlers are shit and keyboard and mouse master race
>>
>>319655168
it'd be completely perfect if Microsoft fucking understood how to make a decent d-pad.

I use a wired X360 controller but I switch to a DS3 controller for the d-pad.
>>
it's weird but great for civ v
>>
>>319654994
i found them to be very well usable
>>

>>
>>319655632
The 360 d-pad was fixed with the later iterations of the controller, and the one used on the Bone is pretty much Nintendo quality. The d-pad complaint is outdated.
>>
>>319655506

No, you always hear shitposters spout that

A real "pcfag" if there would be such a class of people, would point out the valid positive here - which is that we get to choose between all of them, including this gimp looking touchpad one.

I've been using my ds3 lately and have come to realize that its dpad is very uncomfortable.

I played Portal 1 with it. Was ok. Was fun to try out my own keymaps.

Was playing Tomb Raider with it, but life got in the way.

You can set double taps. You can set some things to activate if your finger is on the pad. Once you've set your controls in Big Picture you can go back to regular mode and it works.

Set the touchpad up like a d-pad with high haptic feedback its fine. Dead zone the middle.

Here are my major gripes about the Steam controller:
>Can only be configured in Big Picture
>Shoulder buttons have similar throw and click as Saturn, but without the handy ridges to remind you where they are
>currently no way to treat touchpads as a jog wheel for games like Shatter, Audiosurf, Wizorb, and driving games if you're a fucking crazy person

>>319655747
The 360's D-pad was irredeemably shit, regardless of iteration or dumb gimmick added. The Bone's is OK, reminiscent of the original DS', but the controller has a litany of other issues, especially if you purchased one within the first year to year and a half of its existence.
>>
>>319651182
except this controller is shit for FPS games
the touch pad toggles or whatever they call them aren't precise enough

You obviously haven't used the late gen ones
>The Bone's is OK,
It's quite literally the near exact same as the one Nintendo uses.
> but the controller has a litany of other issues, especially if you purchased one within the first year to year and a half of its existence.
Good one, the only issue I've had is over how to use the bumpers, but that was just something I had to get used to.

Xbone controller's dpad is great.
>>
>>319655829
Wouldn't that just be the ergonomics of the controller itself? Microsoft's is god-tier in that respect, it just feels so natural to hold.

PS3's d-pad is more precise compared to the X360, my biggest complaint is that double-tap commands don't register as easily on the X360. XBone looks better now but I'm not buying that until a sale or something since my X360 is still going strong.

Yes it fills the niche as a hybrid for mouse/controller

Wouldn't use it in competitive online games though

it really needs some exclusive games that make use of all its features
>>
>>319656424
We'll move on to the Xbone controller once our DS3 battery dies completely (which is soon because we can't fucking replace it). No sense paying $50 for the thing when our current ones are still good.

I'm looking at a late gen 360 pad that I bought a few months ago. It's Dpad is practically broken, and its been that way since I got it.

Bone dpad is pretty good.

I have that version of the controller. Not only does it not fix anything, it also has terrible thumbgrips and feels awful to hold because of the way the controller was colored.

>>
from what i can tell, you would be disadvantaged against players who were using a mouse and keyboard (which will continue to be the case since the option is available), and that is its only purpose, to be an alternative to mouse and keyboard. for any other purpose you would prefer an actual dpad. i don't really see what its purpose is but i look forward to trying it
>>
>>319655506
The problem stated with controllers is analog sticks. That's it. Trackballs are pro, as are trackpad controllers, apparently.
>>
>>319657968
It's matte. Whatever treatment they did to the plastic makes it feel both brittle and sticky. I've barely used it as a result (and because of a squeaky trigger), and that was a waste of $50.
