MGS2 took everything great about MGS1 and made it better. MGS3 was great but there was way too much faffing about the inventory changing your camo to satisfy an arbitrary as fuck number counter on your HUD, not to mention how shit and comicbook tier bad some of the bosses were, The Pain and Shagohod were zero fun to fight. The injury and hunting/gathering system made minimal impact to gameplay too. Your inventory's always full of Calorie Mates/Noodles if you're not an idiot, and even then there's always a Reticulated Python within 3 feet of you.

I have played such a wide fucking variety of games out there. Nintendo games will only seem like this unique thing if all you play is AAA western trash and Nintendo which is basically AAA Japanese trash.

There are a few good Nintendo games and a lot of average ones and you guys really, really fucking overrate everything you get. I'd say the problem is new people going into them and actually expecting something good and getting average instead, this is because of the fanbase creating these monolithic expectations for their games. It all boils down to nostalgia. I've played tons of jap games from vns to shit like killer 7, played demon souls long before it became a meme, stumbled upon a kings field as a kid (didn't get too far tbqh), I've played more slav games than most on this board since I'm a fucking slav, I've played loads of 90s and early 00s western games since that's when I got my PC, but I still appreciate a good nintendo game once in a while, they excel at some things no one else even trying to do.
In my case, I liked MGS3 more because my 9 year old self barely spoke English when MGS1 came out. I played MGS3 when I was 15.
I still played the shit out of MGS1 and achieved 100% on VR missions.

Problem was that every other suit would drastically lower the index after just walking a few feet. You'd be well camo'd in one area and you take a few steps and you have niggas shooting at you already. During the fire fight you'd probably have to load the viewer and select a weapon to deal with that current situation. After leaving alert mode, then you have to go back into the viewer, let it load, and heal yourself. Then switch your camo. It was a tedious process that took a lot out of the game especially if you came from playing MGS1 and MGS2.
Also, don't get me started on how long the damn codec took to load up baka senpai.

Instead of letting people know there are some good games here, and letting them go in without expectations, and being presently surprised and joining a nice fanbase, you have a huge culture of hype and icons and have a monolithic expectations of not just greatness but something so magnificent it has developed a cultlike following of millions that has influences pop culture. So people really expect a lot, and then go in and find it's just either a pretty good game, among many other non Nintendo pretty good games (that get way less hype than Nintendo's ones) and are disappointed. yeah, disappointed after playing a good game, because you were lead to believe by an obnoxious in your face fanbase that has become an axiom of gaymer culture that you can't ignore. Stuff like that shouldn't happen. I played Metroid Prime 1 and I liked it, it was good, I was very disappointed because for years before playing it had heard nothing but unending praise like that had set my expectations to be unattainably high.
Worse is when the Nintedo game is just average it's okay tier, or actually bad.

The point of the Survival Viewer was to live up the the scene of the game - it made you consider what an OSP spy and saboteur would need in densely forested and urban environments. MGS1 and MGS2 had different themes in mind during production.
