are games too cheap?

look at this price for Crash Bandicoot in 1996 where its regular price is 49.99. When adjusted for inflation, its 75 bucks today but we usually only pay maybe 60 dollars for games that cost three to five times more in development costs

Seeing my siblings as parents is fucking suffering. So protective and restrictive of their kids. Their kids hardly interact with their friends and text, browse social media, etc. We used to ride bikes all around town, adventuring without a fucking care and nothing but landlines, face-to-face or notes for communication. Jesus, I feel fucking old.

Nice way to come up with new types of shilling? "Hey /v/ don't you all agree games should cost more? Those devs at EA work really hard with low salary because games are so CHEAP. Let's rally a campaign to raise gameprices to the level they deserve!".

I buy AAA games three years after release for pocket-change money and proud of it.

I bought Deus Ex: Human Revolution for 3 dollars in Steam, that's right, three fucking dollars, at this point I've basically paid 5 cents for each hour worth of gameplay, and I'm planning on replaying it soon.

I also bought Tomb Rider and XCOM+DLC for the same price.

I'll take my games as cheap as possible, thank you.
>>
>>319634570
They're about the same price today as they were back then. I bought a snes with the box at a flea market for about 50 bucks.
>>
>>319632494
shit graphics get out nigger
>>
Fuck you, games here in canada cost $79.99 and probably 89.99 staring next year because cad keeps free falling due to OPECOILOL, and wages are absolutely stagnant.
>>
Games should all be £25 for your standard edition and £30 if you want fancy useless shit too.
>>
Crt was fun to play with my dad and friends. He even got that 4 player thingy.

>>
>>319634213
>>319634830
I think this is why I've been losing interest in gaming and rarely pick it up unless I find someone else to do it.

single player games just don't cut it for me. But doing anything co-op with people always get's me high as fuck in the fun factor.
>>
>>319631540
>$42.99
Probably one of those mail-in coupons where you won't receive shit unless you call into the company four months later.
>>
>>319631540
>are games too cheap?
No.
>adjusted for inflation
Get an education.
>>
>>319638056
Yeah i missed doing co-op fps with others it's just not the same online since it's always childrens talking shit.
>>
>>319631540
Probably. Still, plenty of games retail for £50 ($75) in the UK.

The problem is that incomes have been squeezed, as the cost of living has gone up and wages have stagnated. Young people have less disposible income and parents can't afford to buy shit for their kids
>>
>>319640107
I forgot the other side of the equation, which is that development costs have gone up massively, so you need to sell a million to recoup

I'm increasingly convinced the "core" games industry is fucked, unless you're a platform owner like Valve or Sony. I mean, look at Take Two who sell endless copies GTA V/NBA2k but struggle to turn a profit.
>>
games also sell a lot more now desu senpai

I wouldn't mind paying 60 dollars for a game if that money wasn't spent on hundred million dollar advertising campaigns.
>>
>>319631540
No fuck you
Back then the cost of living was low as fuck, it was almost trivial to find a well paying job with a college degree, and life in general was much less expensive.
I don't mean to sound like a "muh 90's" faggot, but the world really did go to shit, didn't it.
>>

>100 dollarydoos for a video game
I don't know how consolefags can put up with this.
>>
>>319643616
Yeah. Not I haven't seen $120 titles outside of special editions.

The average price of a new game is closer to $80 - $90 if you factor in all retailers. Jb hi fi, target, big w, dick Smith are all consistently cheaper than eb games. This November Target has been doing the big titles (cod, fallout, battlefront) for $64 each.
>>
I miss the time where you had a bunch of friends come over, you prepared a large bowl of popcorn and soda, built a blanket fortress, cozily snuggled into it and played all night long until every last one of you fell asleep just to continue playing in the morning.

Nowadays you just pay for online play and let yourself get trolled.
>>

>>
>>319634598
Not to mention the transparent "pre-order bonuses existed back then!" comments.

It's all part of the plan folks, drop this, pay to get it some page-place a little longer and a week from now you'll see this exchange:

>Guys games are too expensive and pre-order bonuses? Pure shit
>F-Fucking millenial cancer! They had that shit back in 1996 and games are CHEAPER in today's dollars!

It's all about opening the door to greater acceptance of modern shit practices.

We're being played like a goddamn fiddle.

If you could get yourself into staying one generation behind (picking up a ps4/xbone on the release of ps5/xbtwo) you will save a huge amount of money, have killer apps immediately with their patches already out, and have a huge amount of info online so you only spend time on the very best games.

>>
>>319644351
You'll have to get used to single player only as most online communities are short lived.
>>
>>319636409
Yeah, this is a major issue for canadian gamers. I'm not supporting this shit. I'll buy games again when prices drop or I'll only buy Zelda U.

I don't care if this is more like pulling support for pricing practices, retailers or devs, but I don't really care and no games are worth that much to me.

I don't play online and I'm not sure why people would. I tried online when I picked up Smash and I quickly realized what a huge mistake that was.

With friends:
>Fun games
>varied style
>Spacing and mind-games
>laffs all around
>real challenge

Online:
>guys trying to imitate that youtube combo posted on /r/smashbros last week
>Regardless of puling it off or not he just tries to setup for it over and over
>0 creativity, if you come at them from a certain angle they do the same shit and the same tired combo over and over
>They never move first

It's like if you took the worst person you ever played with, multiplied it by a million and that's what you fight online.

After big businesses terra-formed public opinion into feeling uneasy about the bad word "union" who is here to push-back?

Businesses will lower our wages or freeze them, not like you can go work for the competition, there's a union of businesses that set pay standards so everyone can fuck us over.

B-but unions are bad anon! They just want your union dues and your precious paycheck!
>>
>>319644950
That's all well and good for smash and for you. But I meant it in a general sense.
If you really, actually can't see the appeal in online play then you may legitimately have autism.
