How do I increase the damage of my guns, /v/?

I already have 10 to strength.
>>
>>319621073
who the fuck knows, the whole perk system is so fucked, i can't tell what perk increases my energy weapons.

i thought "Science!" would do something but it doesn't.
fuck Fallout 4

>perk that increases damage with rifles
>I JUST CAN'T FIGURE THIS SHIT OUT
How do you play vidya if you're illiterate?
>>
don't think you can

you just gotta hold out until you get a random drop with some cool damage and then you just strip your old gun of mods and put them on the perked one
>>
>>319621331
Energy weapons are still designated as rifles, pistols, etc. dipshit
>>
>>319621073
>>319621331
You are both retarded.

Please stop being retarded.
>>
>>319621331

Big guns doesn't distinguish between energy weapons and slug throwers, it's the same with the other gun perks now.
>>
>>319621493
>vault-boy is using a rifle that uses normal bullets
>OH BY THE WAY THAT ALSO MEANS IT WORKS FOR LASERS AND PLASMA LMAO

>WHAT'S THAT? YOU MADE YOUR LASER RIFLE INTO AN AUTOMATIC?
>LOL NO MORE PERK BONUS FOR YOU X)

Fuck off
>>
>>319621073
Weapons are sorted as being pistols (non-automatic), rifles (non-automatic, shotguns sit here), automatic small weapons (pistols + rifles) and big guns.
There is a corresponding perk for each.
>>
>>319621636
There's literally a perk for automatic weapons you used fapkin
>>
>>319621331
Energy weapons are no longer tied with bullets.

If your energy gun is automatic then "automatic weapons do more damage" perk will increase their damage too. Could be wrong but there are in total three gun perks (for pistols, for automatic non-pistols and for non-automatic non-pistols). So just pick one up.

Or go Fist of the North Rad.
>>
>>319621331
the perk system is generic. if you use pistols a lot you take the perk that makes pistols do more damage, if you like automatic weapons you take the perk that makes them do more damage. it doesn't matter if its energy, plasma, or ballistic. they dumbed it down to potato levels and yet here we are with people like you who still dont understand it.
>>
>>319621636
>Perk that increases pistols damage
>works on all pistols
>change the gun so its no longer a pistol
>OMG WHY DOES IT WORK LIKE THIS SO STOOPID

See, this is why they keep changing the systems to make it easier for retards.

You, you are the reason, retard.
>>
>>319621636

I actually like it better this way.

There should be more in common with the operation of a semi auto laser rifle and slug-thrower then a pistol and a machine gun.
>>
>>319621686
>Or go Fist of the North Rad.
This sounds fun. Is it just a melee build?
>>
I just don't like that they change the system SO MUCH to the point where you have to unlearn everything about the previous five games. There's almost fuckall in common other than the S.P.E.C.I.A.L. and that's practically in-name-fucking-only.
>>
I would honestly like a more diverse build as well
Like energy weapons for INT. Agility being automatics and shotguns. Perception being pistols and single shot rifles.

Also why simplify everything but unarmed and melee? Is there a reason for this?

>I actually like it better this way.
Yes I like having less options and having everything streamlined.
>>
>>319621717

They didn't even dumb it down. They just changed the catagories.

In Fallout 1 - 3 you had big guns for heavy weapons, guns and energy weapons.

In NV they got rid of big guns and split them between energy weapons and guns.

In 4 they kept big guns, got rid of guns and energy weapons and reclassified them into pistols, semi-auto weapons and automatic weapons.
>>
>>319622032
i wish they changed the name of Fallout 4 into something else, like TES 2287, now only tie of this game to the previous is the suit
>>
>perks for Rifles, Pistols and Automatics
>nearly every weapon in the game can be modded at a weapons bench into a pistol, rifle, or automatic, so the distinction is pretty much meaningless
>Energy Weapons no longer their own category

Jesus fuck, it's like if they took Bows in Skyrim, got rid of their unique perks, and just shoved them under both Light AND Heavy weapons, depending on the bow you're using at the time.

What a bunch of fucking incompetents. Here's hoping Obsidian gets the chance to show them how its done sometime soon. With luck, Bethesda will steal all their good ideas for Fallout 5, and not just render pistols, rifles, and automatics (including all energy weapons) into a single Gun Damage 4 Perk progression.
>>
>>319622157

It's actually more enjoyable that weapons are not tied to a strength requirements, which effectively is giving players more options now, not less.

90% of the big guns in earlier games were not used because you had to be a real dummy to spend points in strength.

How is it streamlined when the guns are divided into more categories then the previous games?

If anything NV is actually the most "steamlined" in that regard.
>>
>no energy weapon specific perks

TOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOODD
>>
>>319622610
>divided into more categories
You're fucking blind if you think sorting weapons by their firing types is "more categories"

Skills would let you choose what guns you go for
Perks would add even MORE fun to the weapon you use.

Now it's:
>Choose laser rifle run
>the only perk I can choose is just a percentage increase
>>
>>319621636
>>319621331

Because if a rifle shoots bullets it's completely different to aim and handle than a rifle that shoots lasers, amirite?
>>
>>319622610
The categories are meaningless without mechanics seperating them and making them feel distinct.

Why the fuck would I level the pistols perk when I can just change all my pistols into rifles and gain the armor penetration perk from Rifles instead?

Bethesda is garbage.

>>319622425
I'm not sure how to explain this to you, but I'll give it a shot:

LETTING THE PLAYER DO EVERY FUCKING THING AVAILABLE WITH ONE CHARACTER RIGHT AWAY WITH NO COSTS OR REQUIREMENTS KILLS A GAME'S REPLAYABILITY, AND ROBS THE EXPERIENCE OF THE TENSION OR TRIUMPH THAT WOULD BE FELT WHEN ONE MUST EARN THINGS INSTEAD OF BEING HANDED THEM.

Am I getting anywhere here?

>>
>>319622881
Yes, it literally would be different to handle a weapon with recoil that shoots physical bullets and a weapon with no recoil that shoots energy
>>

>>

>>
>>319623325
Vats accuracy is fucking garbage unless you pump Luck, and who the fuck wasted ten points on Luck in this game?
>>
>>319622861

Perks such as...

Most of the perks just give a bonus to damage or chance to hit in VATS in NV.

Biggest change I can think of was the meltdown perk that mad enemies you killed with a plasma gun to explode, and I never took that perk because it usually did more harm then good.
>>
>>319623432
Vats accuracy is determined by perception, not luck.

Luck determines critical meter per hit and damage.
>>
>>319621636
Maybe you should read the perk's description before you buy it...
>>
>>319621869

Fuck off m8. Having skills implied your character understanding of said weapon. A pistol and a rifle have a shitton more in common than a rifle and a plasma rifle.
>>
>>319623432
Luck build here, killing everything in 1 hit with crit headshots that are almost always up due to perks, as well as AP that has a high chance to refill after every kill in vats

Also bullets ricochet off me cuz I'm so lucky, fag
>>
>>319621949
Here's how i started out.

Pumped Strength to 10, Agility get high enough to get moving target(but more doesn't hurt) and at least 5 Luck. Rest i put into agility\luck but it's up to you.

Then i took Rooted and Moving Target(gives you 25% DR when you don't move or when you sprint), some Punch damage, Idiot Savant(took this one at level 2 actually), Power Armor Rush\Knockdown thing(you can skip it if you don't use it) and Blacksmith. Then i crafted the top tier of knuckles upgrade(bleed and 100 damage). That's how i started out, i am not that far, around level 15 but so far i've been one shotting most enemies and despite my low CON it takes a while to die even without power armor. You can tweak it how you want to but that's how i started out and it's been okay.

And yeah, it's pretty fun to run around and punch people, i don't regret starting over(good thing there are pre-vault elevator save files, that intro is long as fuck).
>>
>>319622425
>90% of the big guns in earlier games were not used because you had to be a real dummy to spend points in strength.

What absolute twaddle. You could effectively wield all the heavy guns in FNV with STR no higher than 6 if you picked the right perk, and with the implant or Intense training you could use even less STR when you start the game. STR did not govern big guns in 3, it was END.
>>
>>319622953

No your not, because you're fucking dumb.

The point of Fallout 4 is you can try to use everything, but you will suck at it unless you specialize with perks.

Perk specializations are very clear. "I am good with rifles". "I am good with pistols". "I am good with semi-autos." "I am good with autos". "I am good with explosives".

This is literally the exact same fucking thing we did in FO1 and FO2 by "tagging" skills.

Get off your shit-on-Bethesda bandwagon for five fucking seconds and recognize that the FO4 perk system is not very clever, but it's not the faceroll system you're desperately making it out to be.

Oh and to add to that you can also pump Big Leagues alongside Iron Fist if you want to. I put a few levels into it just in case.
>>
>>319623618

What's so different from about the operation of energy weapons we have in fallout? It's held the same way, they both recoil. Only with energy weapons you don't have to account for bullet drop.

Of course the mechanics of how they work are completely different, that's why the crafting perks are divided between energy and conventional weapons.
>>
>>319623864
>>319623654
Sounds fun. I have yet to start a melee character. I'll have to try out your build the next run I do. I really liked punching things to death in NV.

>>
>>319625028
and how many levels does it take to max out every 'skill' perk?
i wager that you could probably have every hacking/crafting/weapon perk maxed out around level 60-70
everything after that is just perks that you will probably never need or want
>>
>>319625654
The felt effect sure, but not the way you aim. A laser isn't going to be affected by gravity like a bullet is.
>>
>>319625752

That doesn't change the fact that it's still incredibly similar, if anything going from projectile to energy would make shooting easier, since it's a case of hit what you point at.
>>
>>319625982
Except you'd have to unlearn a whole heap of habits. Leading your shots, taking wind into account, all the shit that makes a good marksman is no longer necessary.

Which is the fucking point of the discussion, a perk for ballistic rifles shouldn't also cover laser rifles.

Are modded weapons the best items in the game or do the best items come from legendary drops?
>>
>>319626115

The point is that there's more in common between the two then there is between a pistol and a heavy machine gun.

Or by NV logic, a pistol and a minigun.

>>319625738

By the time you hit that level you'll probably have basically finished the game unless you really like grinding minutemen quests, so what's the point?

You could basically max out everything in Fallout 2 if you somehow got yourself up to level 99 too.

The level scaling in this game is so horrible. Even using the best mods and the console to add legendary effects there is only so much you can do to deal with the level scaling and damage sponginess of enemies. Even in Skyrim it was better if only because you could use the alchemy & enchanting loop to craft ridiculously powerful weapons to deal with it but in Fallout 4 there is no such luxury. Not even specialized ammo to at least further exploit enemy weaknesses.
>>
>>319625982
Totally wrong. With normal bullets, you have to account for wind, gravity, recoil, and random inaccuracy.

None of those apply to a laser weapon
>>
>>319622953
>Change pistols to rifles
you can only do that for pipe weapons, which are the most modular weapon class in the game, and the suck big time end game.

They have entirely different behaviours, inner workings, recoil, everything. Shooting is more than "point and pull the trigger".

A sniper is not going to be necessarily good with air guns or crossbows just because they are all shouldered you fucking idiot.
>>
>>319627979
I think OP's idea was that strength is associated with handling a firearm better

obviously he didn't take into account to the fact that his gainz only affects accuracy and not bullet force
>>
>>319623878
So are you implying that everyone who knows how to shoot a rifle is going to be as good with a fucking crossbow or an air gun?

Why do make posts like that when it's you don't know shit about shooting, there is a fuck ton more to it than just point and pull the trigger.
>>
