Hello everyone, I'm a bethbaby who started the series with 3. I've played 3, nv, and 4. I'm going to start fallout 1 tomorrow on my phone using dosbox turbo. Anything I should know before I start the game?
>>
kill yourself millenial

if you have high luck you can get infinite money by just holding down a button to gamble in the casino
>>
>>319617693
don't start with a melee build
>>
>>319617693
Just fucking stick with it, give the game some time. I dropped it when I first started playing it but I went back the next day and played it for a couple hours and it finally clicked for me.

Charisma is your dump stat. Set it to 1, put the points into Agility, and keep your speech skill high.

If you take the fast shot trait you won't be able to fire aimed shots, which can be an issue.

Have fun.
>>
>>319618332
If you don't know what you're doing and you try to machete dualwielding daggers you're going to get stuck on the next screen

Just have fun now and save the higher skill build for end game or later runs
>>
>>319617693
Wait is this playable on mobile? That sounds fucking awesome.
>>
>>319617693
Be prepared to die often, and know that running or otherwise avoiding conflict is not only a valid tactic, it's vital to your survival. This is not a game where you are an invincible god unless you really powergame it and go for the most broken shit possible. For the most part, you need to pick your battles wisely.

Also, dive into the lore and take in the world building. The setting and the side stories are the big draw, with the humor and main story as distant seconds.
>>
>>319618340
Damn that's too bad, I was going to go high charisma and speech.
>>319618469
Alright, I was thinking energy weapons for my first run through, that's the type I usually go for. Or heavy weapons. I'm not sure yet.
>>319618482
Ya it is, I know you can on android using Dropbox turbo. I'm pretty there is a way to get it running on apple too with it jailbroken. Not sure.
>>
>>319618663
That's what I wanted to hear. F4 left me pretty disappointed in the story but I wanted more fallout. Pretty pumped to jump in.

>Playing it on a phone.

That's gonna be some small ass text. I can't even see how that's going to work.

I dont even
>>
>>319617693
Fucking either buy it 2 bucks on PC or pirate it. You can't play that shit on touch based mobile.
>>
>>319618797
Charisma is pretty much worthless in Fallout 1. Speech is important. Tag speech, a weapon skill, and whatever - you'll be fine.

Small guns is a good skill for first time because ammo and variety is plentiful.
>>
>>319617693
Its not as good as 2 but plot is important. Also wielding that game on your phone is gonna be a massive pain in the ass.
>>
>>319619258
Already have it on pc, got f1, f2, and tactics long ago when gog did the give away for free or whtever. Might just do it on pc then. I started a new character on my comp a min ago and the text was already small as fuck. Might not be worth it on mobile.
>>
Not OP, but how much room for fucking around do I have in respect to the time limit for the water chip?

Also, what's a good way to make money? So far all I've been doing is stealing which miraculously worked out all the time.
>>
>>319620693
a lot

the game switches to a real time timescale when you're in a town
>>
>>319620693
If you're playing a recently patched version, you have a ton of time. You pretty much have to wander around the world map aimlessly - there really isn't enough locations for you to spend enough time on the world map.
>>
>>319617693
The menu buttons are really fucking small, good luck
Also, get gifted, max out agility
go small guns, speech and lockpick
learn to kite the shit out of enemies
>>
>>319618797
If you're going high charisma and speech, go all out. You can actually beat Fallout 1 and 2 without killing anything if you're careful. Supposedly you can in New Vegas, but I've never tried it.
>>
>>319623773
>fallout 2
>without killing anything
nah
>>
>>319617693
>I'm going to start fallout 1 tomorrow on my phone
>on my phone

You're insane. Unless your phone is fucking huge enjoy trying to press tiny little buttons and arrows most of the time.
>>
>>319620693
Money isn't super important in the first one, since you're bartering all the time. Stealing is good, just save often in case shit.

Shit, that's right, two are mandatory, my bad.
>>
>>319617693

don't take fast shot as a perk, VATS is almost essential in late game if you're a combat-based character (aim for the eyes

Also keep a spare save file on hand in case you experience a bug or glitch. Don't want to have to scrap a whole character cus of something dumb.
>>
>>319624101
its ok

it just proves fallout 2 is inferior, that's all
>>
All you need to know is that you really can't have below 5 agility and that a lot of the misc. skills (doctor, outdoorsman, gambling etc.) aren't worth tagging.

>>319617693

Companions become useless late-game and you don't receive a special ending for keeping them alive.

Don't feel bad if they die.
>>
>>319617693
>phone
You fucked up already.
>>
>>319618112
The first time I played I used a melee build. Still easy although waiting for the pushing animation was boring as fuck.
>>
>>319624197
As much as I hate the beginning, I politely disagree.
>>
Playing on a phone is a nightmare I tried
>>
>>319624501
Yep. Except Dogmeat, only the scrubbest of scrublords let Dogmeat die.
>>
>>319624575
Yeah, fallout 2 is everything fallout is and more.

Unfortunately New Vegas isn't everything fallout 2 is, but there is more at least.
>>
Save a lot, put a lot of points into agility for more action points this is crucial
>>
>>319618987

I played Shadowrun on my phone, ended up having to use the on phone magnifier for the text, can't imagine how bad a game not made for mobile would be.
>>
>>319623773
>>319623869
Now I'm curious. Would these mandatory fights preclude me from doing a run like that? As in, would I get my shit kicked in for ignoring combat stats and be unable to proceed?
>>
Save often
You can turn on permanent running and speed up the combat in the settings
Gifted is OP
Perception and agility are good
Keep a rope on you at all times
Ask NPCs about everything and anything
>>
>>319624887
Oh yes. Unless you manage to find some sort of exploit for Horrigan.
>>
>>319617693
This guys advice is solid >>319618112

In addition be prepared to lube up that ass real good. Trust me you are going to need it. These games are hardcore. I don't even say that to be edgy. I'm dead serious. Fallout 1 and 2 are hard even by 90's standards. Also tag small guns. Just do it and don't look back.
>>
>>319617693
Don't play it on your phone for Christ's sake.
>>
>>319624887
Anyone who tells you that you can do proper pacifist runs in Fallout is full of shit. It always involves just running away from everything and making your companions do all the work in fights.
>>
>>319624979
>Keep a rope on you at all times

IIRC there's only like two places in the game where you actually need a rope but it'll save you some frustration and backtracking both times if you have one ready
>>
Okay anon let me give you the COMPLETE retard's guide. Feel free to ignore if you don't want too much handholding

- 1 CHA 10 AGI, 9 if you plan on getting augs later which can be missed. CHA itself is never checked, Speech skill factors into a percentage on checks and INT is checked alone.
- INT also determines your skill points per level and you only have 21 levels, which you will likely never max out
- Always take Gifted, never Skilled. Unless you're doing a very specific build (like Retard build) Gifted is 10x better than everything else
- Fast Shot is a solid first time trait choice unless you're going for crits. Finesse is a big risk but can be incredible paired with Better Crits
- if you don't take Fast Shot, then focus on aiming for the Eyes on humanoid enemies
- Take Action Boy perk whenever possible
- Skills can go over 100% but with diminishing returns. Always put points into Energy Weapons or Big Guns every couple levels, as these are straight upgrades not an alternate playstyle
- Don't tell people where you live
-Do not, ever, use AP rounds, the math is broken and they end up doing jack shit
- Do not, EVER, give a companion ANY weapon with Burst Fire
- Equip your weapon to your secondary slot so you can swap to your empty primary slot in towns
- to micromanage your companions' equipment pull up the Skillodex and Steal from them, they don't get angry
- a lot of incidental skills you can boost by buying books in the Hub; with the patched time limit you have tons of room to farm for them if need be

Don't worry boys I'm not going to. Simmer down I already realized the interface is designed for a big screen. The text would be near impossible. Maybe a tablet would work not sure. Either way it's best on pc.
>>319619517
>>
>>319626374
Oh
And
SAVE
ANY
TIME
ANYTHING
HAPPENS
You can literally have the last boss at 1 health in full Power Armor and get crit shot by your Companion in the eyes, bypass Armor and die in the span of 3 seconds
Fucking save
>>
Charisma doesn't matter while speech does. Charisma is the perfect dump stat.
Agility gives you action points and some things can reduce cost of shooting so agility is not bad, two eye shots to the eyes with plasma rifle is nothing to sneeze at.

You can get plasma weapons and power armor right after leaving the vault but you probably shouldn't do that.
>>
>>319626531
Ty for all that info. Seems like the character building is the most complex part of the game. Funny considering it's the exact opposite in the new installments. I'll probably make a new character since the one I made has 9 charisma. Only got out of the vault played like 5min so a Reroll isn't too bad at this point.
>>
>>319626787
The Character Creator isn't super complex, there's just a lot of shit that doesn't end up mattering

Like Outdoorsman effects your random encounter rate, but it's also based on the processing speed of your computer and typically there's a patch to fix this in most updates so it ends up meaning literally nothing.

And 3/4ths of the traits outright do not matter
You can still get a lot of variety though, a 2 LUK Jinxed Melee run can be incredible since you should bever be missing for example
And of course, the ubiquitous Retard run
>>
Some possible spoilers OP.

Agility is the best stat period.

Power armor boosts your strength by 5. For some reason it doesn't put your stats over 10 even though it really should.

Luck is gimmicky and not a necessity. You can go low here.

Small guns will be useful to you throughout the whole game. Where as big guns and energy guns appear much more later on in the game. Although they are good.

Perception is better than you might think.

You better save often and make sure you use all slots. You might fuck up somewhere or possibly get stuck. You want to use all those saves.

You will be timed to get that water chip. You don't get it in time you get the worst ending.
>>
>>319624754
New Vegas was nice because it had so many more references to the first two than 3 did. Not trying to start that whole conversation, just saying.

PA boosts strength by 4

Pretty sure you're misremembering Perception being good, wasn't it bugged? Or was that Fallout 2?
>>
>>319617693
Play on a PC instead. You really want to.
>>
>>319628281
Perception allows you to engage combat from further away and opens certain dialogue options. It's pretty good stat since you will be shooting things a lot in this game. This is especially good against melee fighters. Which there are a lot of in these games.
>>
>>319624754
Fallout 1 has a better plot and better worldbuilding. Also less stupid shit like talking noble deathclaws.
