3. Game terrain got boring after Notch used an always-exact seed based generation for Beta 1.8

Fun as fuck once the beta multiplayer was functional enough. I spent most of the time on a neat private server that a friend from work invited me too. We would just chill on vent, build shit and fuck around for hours. It was comfy.

Fuck, I remember playing GTA Vice City religiously when I was younger.
Towards the end of alpha iirc, the terrain generation got super boring, changing from plenty of mountains to flatlands and hills.
Stupid shit got added in. Nether, squid, dogs, pumpkins, hunger, lapis, enchantments, etc.
Lots of shit that isn't pointless but was really unnecessary was being added. Tons of items/blocks started cluttering the game and before you know it, you have current Minecraft instead of the interesting terrain generation/exploration game with some really, really good core "survival" mechanics.

Updates became sporadic and lacked direction. Remember when Notch was playing Skyrim at launch and decided his game needed a dragon too? Shit like that was rampant.
Very few updates from late beta onward facilitated exploration, downright hindering it at times with a more boring terrain generator and hunger encouraging sedentary farming.
Throw in a rabid fanbase and piles of money no matter what changes were made, and you end up with an unfinished game made by the world's most complacent dev team.

Not really. However, I think the sentiment behind saying Minecraft wound up unfinished comes from it failing to live up to the potential it had way back in the infdev and alpha days. Notch & Co. failing to deliver on a myriad of promises didn't help, either.
