This day and age, it's damn hard to tell how this will end up. It's been ages since the last proper, "AAA" quality 3D collectaton-platformer.
I'm cautiously optimistic. I just recently started playing the original game, after owning it for a couple of years. I guess the announcement of the sequel was the final push I needed, and good thing too; the game's awesome and fun!
Plus Lili's a total qtie + best tsundere in gaming history.

I always imagine that all the people who threw "3.3" at Mr. Shitface were all "muh le nerdy nostalgia" types back in 2012. They had a moderately decent paying job, and a trophy Nurdgurl girlfriend or wife. Eternal Optimism all around.
Cut to 2015: Their career ended up becoming dead end, nobody thinks they are witty and clever anymore when they talk about "nerdy" shit. Their wives/girlfriends are sick of them, and even though they keep up appearances so far, they are fucking tone of non-nerd, alpha men on the side.
The Eternal Optimist Nerd, fully aware that his life is crumbling behind him, sees this crowd fund campaign and thinks "With this act of Le Money Throwies, I can recapture my glory days." So he does, as does everyone else from the previous time. The game gets funded, and gets released. Not only does it flop, but it doesn't help to restore the glorious lives of the eternally optimistic nerds, with their wide sheep eyes. Their job fires them because they are sick of Dr. Who jokes, and their wives/gfs leave them because they want a real man to jackhammer fuck them every night, not "be nerdy" and Whedon-quip during sex.
You have this chance, this one chance. Don't give your money to Mr. Shitface. Forge a new destiny for yourself. Do it before it is too late.
Tim Schafer, or any other person on the Double Fine team, is a far different person today than they were 10 years ago. Different sensibilities and mindsets, older, additional life experience. They won't have the same frame of reference to draw from for world-building or characterisation.
Off the top of my head I can't think of a sequel to a game that was both made 10+ years after the fact and remained a great game, if not equal to/better than its predecessor. I can name a couple of games made 10+ years after the original that tried to capitalise on the spirit of the first game. Like Gunstar Super Heroes, Yoshi's Island DS and Sonic 4.
