It is significantly more thought provoking to actually learn a game with real gameplay over literal hand-holding simulators. I actually like SotC a lot, but it's gameplay doesn't hold a candle to DMC1 or 3. If I had to choose between the two collections for a desert island, I know I'd get bored of ICO and SotC a hell of a lot faster than DMC.
Ico is boring, SotC is laggy and overrated but fun.

Sure, but that's an absurd example. I guess to me Ico and SotC win because they are more unique, one of a kind so to speak, while there are several "cuhrazey" action games out there. Ico and SotC would be a special experience no matter what, but if you've played DMC4, Bayonetta, MGR, Ninja Gaiden, etc etc then DMC1-3 won't be as special.
