huge gimmick or the future of video games?

Only the head set has a future. Motion control and haptics atr gimmick shit.
>>
Just leave it as a headset for now. Technology isn't ready for full VR.

Controlling yourself with a controller/KBM isn't going to break immersion. Flapping your hands everywhere trying to interact with the world and failing will break immersion.
>>
It's all a gimmick destined to die out before the decade is over.

Unless it becomes an entity unto itself AND a decent alternative to existing gaming avenues, it's going to die out and be a footnote in gaming history

Both, but you won't see VR appreciably evolve within your lifetime.

I had a DK2 a few months back.

It's cool when the game is designed with it in mind. Elite Dangerous was absolutely stunning with it, and Keep Talking and Nobody Explodes was a great experience with my friends.

However, it's fairly limited as a gameplay addition (hence why they're developing all the Wii-like gimmicky controllers. In most games it just gives you an extra level of immersion but doesn't really give you much of an advantage.

The only games it clearly gives you an edge in is "seated" games like racing and flight/space games. I found it really hard to go back to playing ED normally after I had to give the set back to my company. It was just so intuitive to fight and navigate using the rift and a joystick.

I did try it in some moving games, but it was too weird trying to control a character with it.

Thought controled input devices seem to be making some progress. Hopefully its the non-implant type that advances the most.

The future of gimmicks.

Both.

Whether you like it or not is up to you.

This is good for two reasons IMO
>PC Rock Band
>Constant band animations, not changing with every fucking camera angle change
>>
The problem with it is it's a peripheral that you need on top of an existing (and pretty high-end) gaming setup.

In all the decades of video gaming, that has never ever worked ever.

Especially in the realm of PC gaming.

this, the future of cockpit games is in VR
>>

This. For now it's not going to take off in any capacity.

We're looking it at another 5 or 6 years before it could possibly become something tangible for the main stream considering how weak current consoles are.

Good tech for niche games.
Don't make it out like it has to be one or the other.
>>
I thought it was designed for porn. It's not?
>>
>flight simulators with VR
>racing games with VR

this is the future we need
>>
>>319583708
The only people who call it a gimmick are people who haven't tried it.
>>
>>319585636
>PC Rock Band

We can only hope, maybe it means OR will be compatible with consoles?
>>
>>319586829
It's PC. Sold in the Oculus store. But it may not work without the headset.

>mecha games with VR
