It isn't for everyone, but I do recommend you make ii out of the ruins first, they're definitely the weakest area. If you did already play through about 3 hours or so then you can go ahead and call it whatever you want, it's your opinion.

I pirated the game too and played it blind two days after release because I enjoyed the demo in 2013.
No spoilers, no sour taste in my mouth going in due to cancerous fanbass, no expectations, not having been told by anybody that it's super amazing.
And I throughly enjoyed it.
It's a pretty creative game with a fun battle system. The characters are endearing. The humor is good though the occasional joke falls flat. The 4th wall breaking is really, really good. I don't say that for every game because that can be done badly too but Undertale nails it. Flowey is a genuinely intimidating villain and you can feel his presence even though he disappears after the first area.
The best part about the game is the music, and the last segment of the game (everything from New Home to Asgore to Flowey to True Lab to the real final boss is absolutely fantastic)
I feel bad for the people who won't get to play it like I did and go in already expecting it to be a Tumblr game or being soured by all the furries who rave about it. It's a great game in its own right. Saying its bad because of its fans is like saying Sonic 2 isn't a solid game because Sonic has an autistic fanbase.

I fucking hate undertale. Played it for like an hour or so, got to the place where you "date" one of the skeletons. I was bored to tears so I asked my memer friend who loves undertale, like, what the fuck?
So he tells me I'm supposed to feel bad for killing the pixelated bullshit carrots attacking me and that I'm a monster for killing the cow lady who wanted to imprison me. When he then told me the skeleton was "hilarious" I deleted him from my friends list and I deleted the fucking game.

I like it because it's like a simple and focused GBA JRPG.
That's exactly what I wanted to play at the moment when it came out, because I was burned out by huge, bland open world games.

Pandering is the worst criticism anyone can give to something, because what they're really arguing is "How dare they pander to someone that isn't me", which boils further down to the main criticism being "Waaah, how come I'm not their target audience?!". nah, I got to duster's chapter, I think, then got really confused with what to do to progress and just waited for the translation project to get released. It was a couple years back.
Finishing it, I think I prefer it to earthbound, but it's a much more closed off experience. Earthbound had that insane concept that you were a bunch of kids going around the world beating up monsters, and it felt a lot like the games you would make up when playing as a kid. Mother 3 tried to be more personal, more direct, and in some ways I think it's far superior to 2, but then it pulls all that shit with the needles and the dragon and starts feeling like a classic rpg and seems to lose its way.
I did beat pokemon gold in jap, though, with the help of a guide. Even made up names for all of the new mons because I couldn't understand shit. I guess I had a higher tolerance for trial and error and making shit up as I went when I was younger.
