/v/ I'm buying a 3DS XL for $64 to play luigi mansion dark moon, monster hunter 4 and a couple of games more
Should I go for it or save for a New 3DS XL?

Definitely go for a New instead. That nipple thumbstick is a must have and feels nicer than the CPP anyway.
Also the New is slightly better overall anyway, not to mention that the 3D effect actually works with any game I've tried without inducing nausea.

it works fine without it, the thumbnipple is pretty low quality as well and I don't know a friend who hasn't had trouble with it after a month or so.

The CPP XL is fantastic and feels great for Monster Hunter. The real selling point for the N3DS with MH4U is that it looks a bit nicer and runs a bit better, but it's still perfectly playable on a regular XL.
I played up to G-crown in Monster Hunter with a 3DS XL, no second analog. I honestly had no issues with controlling the camera after an hour or so of actual hunting; your hand naturally starts aligning itself to hit the D-Pad with a weird pseudo - claw grip while not very much sacrificing maneuverability. I can't really word it well, but let's just say I've had zero deaths thanks to camera control. Target cam works wonders especially once you know where obstacles and boundaries in areas are by heart
But I got a New 3ds LL as a gift recently, and honestly the "feel" of the device is such a fantastic contrast to the older models. It's a bit smaller, but the screen is still bigger than a regular 3DS non-xl. From the moment I booted it up I wasn't missing the screen size, and the form factor is fantastic (smaller surface area so its typical 3ds thinness doesn't feel as weird)
You're gonna be surprised when you touch the nub, it feels like it moves even less than those old IBM keyboard ones but the camera will do EXACTLY what you want it to do when playing games.
Sorry if this kinda ran on, I'm mobileposting. If you can wait and it doesn't put you in a financial hole, I'd say go with the New 3ds.

I was thinking about the same, I have this offer to buy a 3DS XL on good condition for $64 and is pretty cheap, I was considering a 2DS before but this is more cheap and it looks and feels in perfect shape If I want to buy a New 3DS I will need to wait until April

Get a hackable 3DS. I think the required firmware is like 9.2 or something, which is rather easy to come across if you look for sealed old bundles or get second hand on craiglist
