EA might suck ass for gamers, but from a business perspective, it's probably one of the more safe companies to invest in, just because of how jewy they are.

If you want a real answer here it comes. Is the digital side of their business. EA makes shit ton of money by selling digital goods (DLC) in games like FIFA and Madden. The mode is called Ultimate Team and it basically is the most popular mode of their most popular games and is ridden with microtransactions and addiction like you would get in a Casino. Since 2011 this modes have become more and more popular first on FIFA, then on Madden then on NHL and now even in UFC 2.
That is basically it, also EA shifted their sales strategy to be less focused on the retail sector and encourage digital sales globally.
