Finished Starfish earlier today. Wasn't expecting the trilogy to essentially be one long story if that makes sense. The book ends right in the middle of the story.

The last non-mandatory book I read was the beginning of Stephen King's "The Stand". It was about a month after I finished The Dark Tower series. I don't remember why I dropped it.

Do not read the sequels, trust me on this. Starfish is a really good story on it's own, the sequels are bad and make Starfish worse by association.
