HTC's Vive VR headset won't be out until April

http://www.pcgamer.com/htcs-vive-vr-headset-wont-be-out-until-april/

God damnit.

Looks like HTC is on Valve time now. Guess I'll have to settle for an Oculus.
>>
This comes as a surprise to noone who's been paying attention to VR. Every dev with a brain knew they were lying about releasing this year.
>>
what's the thing with vive anyway?
isn't it just that you can move around and shit, who even has room for that?
>>
>>319505260
People who aren't poor, generally.
>>
Why do you need VR so badly that you can't wait to see what comes out as the superior product?
>>
I still won't give my money to oculus
fuck their exclusives. They won't have me as a hostage.
That's why I play on PC too.

How is having a large home a bag of shit? I'm not really following your logic here. You took an out of context cell about something completely different and tried to apply it to something where it doesn't work.
>>
>>319505912
post your steam account, and make it public
i wanna laugh at how many pc exclusives you have, and then the fact that you think its any different

>>319503982
this tbqh, only people that believed that shit was valvedrones on leddit
>not wanting motherfucking rockband vr
>not wanting to rock out with all your internet buddies on stage

vives only advantage was releasing before oculus and having room scale before oculus touch came out
now oculus will release first and people will buy into that ecosystem easily, and then buy touch
HTC fucked up hard this time, their selling first advantage is gone and the in the BEST CASE scenario, only have 3 months of room scale over oculus, and in the WORST CASE scenario for them, theyll get beaten to that as well
that coupled with the rift actually having games, and being sold near cost

vive is DoA
>>
>>319509676
You sound like an Oculus shill with the way you worded things, but I do agree with everything you've said, actually. It would have been nice if HTC was really able to compete but now their death has truly been knelled. What a tragic end. Valve should have chosen a different partner for their first headset.
>>
>>319509676

Oculus has all the marketing as well and it will be shilled to normies at a cheaper price

Well not like I care I'm not getting vr until dx12 cards are out. Anything on PC can be made to work across all vr headsets anyways so may the best vr win
>>
>>319510582
fanboy maybe but not a shill, maybe bias but objective, htc have shot themselves in the foor here, and dragged valve through the mud in the process
valve really should have gone with someone better to make the headset, no idea who, but the bankrupt taiwanese company wasnt a good idea thats for sure
http://pastebin.com/embed_js.php?i=eSrfwwpU heres a fun read from an 'insider'

>>319511041
more headsets in consumer hands is better for vr at the end of the day, no matter who builds them or how they get there
once theres an installbase, the big devs and publishers will come and then its easy mode for headset makers building a directx-vr of sorts
>>
>>319511178

Yea but I don't think vr will take off rapidly. A 3 month delay isn't too fatal vr still needs to reach 90 fps which dx12 cards might more easily support on higher end maxed games. If dx12 cards were out at the same time as oculus it would be fucking over.

I bet you think Hitler was wrong too.

I'm waiting on the Starbreeze VR headset whenever that comes out (if it does).
>>
>>319513676
Unless your Amish I'm confident you've financially supported far worse companies than Facebook without even thinking about it.
>>
>>319514291
Even if that were the case. One has to start somewhere to make the world a better place.
>>
>>319514172
By the time it comes out, other companies will have made better and equally or larger FOV headsets.
>>
For once, I'd like a VR circlejerk thread. Pretty tired of all the fanboy arguing desu.
>>
>>319514576
But until then, I shall wait.

>rock out with your internet buddies on stage

Have you ever actually played a rhythm game? All that matters is the stream of notes and a heavy headset strapped inches from your eyeballs has to be the most disorienting and uncomfortable way to possibly play that.

The only exciting application of VR so far is porn honestly.
>>
>>319514964
Movies in general will be great on VR, but idk, stuff like The Witness will be cool.
>>
>>319514964

I can't fucking wait for the flood of VR porn games. Hopefully it gets as much attention in thr coming years as the FPS market had.

>fuck their exclusives
Nice meme opinion. All their "exclusives" were funded themselves (like Nintendo funded bayo2) and are exclusive to the oculus platform, not the oculus rift. there's no reason someone can't mod those games to function with the HTC vive. Its exclusive to oculus in the same way battlefield could be "exclusive to Origin"
>>
>>319514964
>heavy headset strapped inches from your eyeballs
hahahhaha
youre going to feel like a colossal retard and all the comments youve ever made of this nature will come flooding back to you in a wave of embarassment once you actually try a rift or vive
>>
>>319514964
>i hate fun, just leave it as a 2d rhythm game, it doesnt need any fun factor!
>>
>>319516306
I'm going to give these people so much shit once the devices release. I hope they never hear the end of it and learn not to be so presumptuous.
>>
>>319505260
>isn't it just that you can move around and shit, who even has room for that?

I thought the Oculus Rift was a seated experience, then this happened.
>>
>>319516775
You actually fell for the legal statement meme.

Until maybe half a year ago, their lawyers didn't want them to say it was anything but seated because of liability, but you could tell by the tone when they were asked that it was not really a "seated experience." Most of the demos they give aren't seated, either, at that time, and at present time.

neither are, and both are

they can both do room scale and they can both do seated
neither care where or how you mount the trackers, both have over 90º FoV (can make a cube area) and both have sub-mm accuracy for 5+meters
anyone saying otherwise is either an idiot or trolling, the only difference is that the rift doesnt come with all that standard, the 2nd camera and the motion controllers are sold as a seperate pack (and potentially at a later date)
this was why vive had such a strong advantage if it released first, because it would not only beat the rift to market, but also the touch kit and thus be the first room scale
>>
>>319516306
I've already tried one and it's certainly not the way to play a rhythm game for any amount of time. Have you?
>>
>>319517345
i think you think its going to be the same as all the other rhythm games, its not, theyve built this game from day 1 for vr and nothing but vr

safe to say itll function well in vr
