Why do people hate mgs 4 and mgs 2? I've never read reviews on mgs games until recently and i was surprised to find that people consider them complete shit compared to mgs 3 and peacewalker. Idk i thought they were great in their own way.
Also, I've been playing mgs 5 and does anyone else feel hollow/empty while playing it? The intro was great, it looks nice and i really like the characters but the story leaves a lot to be desired. And Keifer doesnt have very many lines so that doesnt help any.

That's exactly how I feel. I don't feel like I'm playing Snake, just some random guy. This game I thought would be a hands-down great play as an open sandbox, but instead i feel disjointed and no connection to the story whatsoever. I liked 4 because at least I could follow the story, but I have absolutely no clue what's going on or why anymore.
They were great in their own way like mgsv is great in its own way, although honestly all mgs4 has going for it is story since there's very little room for gameplay to breathe and it has the worst story out of them all

Same here anons. Its a bleak and disparaging feeling. I only played up to mission 17/until I maxed out bond level with Quiet so I could feel, you know, that feel. But, of course, it was only fleeting. After that, I found it very hard to continue doing the same three things over an over again for muh honor muh legacy muh diamonds. I'll probably pick it up again for Ps4 later on.

Yes. Snake in mgs 4 was a really sympathetic hero and was someone to latch onto when the story got complex.
Snake in mgs 5 feels almost like a player surrogate. Theres not personality to him so it makes it hard to care when the story dulls down even when i really want to.
I still think MGS4 had the best gameplay in the series, but it was full of awful decisions in both the design and story.
Making Johnny a main character was the worst idea Kojima has ever had.

MGS2 was brilliant in its own way but was widely reviled on release for basically trolling the fuck out of the fanbase.
MGS4 had about an hour of fantastic gameplay padded with 20 hours of cutscenes and four hours of crawling around in the dirt.

That's why it's MgsV not mgs5
MGS3 >>> MGS4 >>> MGS1 >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> MGS2 >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>MGS5

I can't stand MGS4 because there's so little gameplay. Only Act 2 is an actual game.
>Act 1: Tutorial
>Act 2: Game
>Act 3: The most poorly designed area in any MGS game, ever. (Bad escort mission. Then you have to deal with boring on-rails shooting and then the worst Bed and Breakfast fight).
>Act 4: Nostalgia trip that wears off after first playthrough (only saving grace is REX vs RAY fight)
>Act 5: Sneak through small area, then press forward to win.
And on a narrative level, MGS4 punishes the player for critical thought the same way MGS2 rewards the player.
>Rose had a fake marriage to a man she never previously met because the computer of some dead idiots might want to come after her
>for some reason
Okay, MGS4.
what was the point of making the goofy support team from mgs3 the patriots if following games did nothing to follow up?
MGS2 is the best because of the gameplay.
It plays like a 2d game with 3d elements.

mgs3 and 4 are treks straight forward with little backtracking
mgs1 has quite a bit but didn't annoy as much as mgs2, because the big shell seemed smaller or at least much less open
