Legacy of Kain is a prime example of gr8 writing (especially considering the patchwork they had to do to make the whole thing fit together) and voice acting work in videogames. All the games are like that.
Blood Omen 2 maybe a little less since Simon Templeman kinda carries the show in that one, but Blood Omen 1, the Soul Reavers, and Defiance are all the same tone and quality as that clip.

Furthermore Dead Sun looked so atrocious that it made Nosgoth look like a tribute in comparison.
Defiance ending works fine for me and while i would love to see more of Nosgoth and all i don't want them reviving Raziel or you know... an episodic remake (because that's what we are doing now)

I loved pretty much everything about the first Soul Reaver... the aesthetics, the goth feel, the gameplay:
- killing your brothers for habilities to access new areas
- Using terrain advantages like the sun or the water
- Taking weapons from wherever you could find them
- loosing life over time unless you had the reaver
- Defeating your brothers with puzzles
It might not seem like much today but it was not that common and it was a big thing back then. Anything they do now would not be up to the challenge... granted, Nosgoth could be the size of Skyrim or whatever and the graphics would be awesome but i don't think they could nail a feel similar to the aesthetics of the first SR nor a gameplay with the same punch. At best they could add combos or some RPGish grow skills or something like that but not something innovative or fresh.
Nintendo had Ocarina of time and SONY got Soul Reaver. That's how great this game is.

I recall a scene being cut from Defiance that would have shown Kain returning to Avernus cathedral and placing the soul reaver in the room where he finds it initially. Outside of Janos that scene pretty much completes the games story and closes the loop.

Unfortunately Anon is right. People said these things about Soul Reaver 2 and Defiance when they came out. There was kind of an uproar when someone pointed out that one of the complaints the Game Spot reviewer had were answered less than a few hours into the game, proving he had only played it for a short time before deciding it was a 6/10 "DMC clone."
Game Spot was trying to turn their website into an IGN clone with user content and discussions and a paid subscription. They started deleting reviews that even remotely hinted at the "official" reviewer had barely touched the game, including reviews submitted by two or three people that had paid Game Spot accounts.
